Both sporting dual humbuckers, one a thinline the other oddly appealing to my 70's retro sensibilities. Anyone ever choose between these two or care to opine about either?

I can't speak for the VM but i owned the VMT. I wanted to like it but it just did not sound good at all and the neck felt super thin and while i have no explanation as to why, it just felt really cheap. This coming from a very big fan of the classic vibe series. The VMT's wide range HB's just sound very muddy in the low strings but very bright and thin on the plain strings. So when u try and EQ the amp for the thin plain strings the low strings just get way too muddy. Try and EQ it for the low stings and the plains get way too harsh and thin., Tied modding them via the telenator method (Alnico poles in place of the screws and removing the bar mag) to no avail. Overall i just don;t think it's a very good tele. I have owned a few classic vibe teles and still own a CV strat and all were very good to great. I don't know if the other VM squires are any good, but personally i'd stay away from the 72 thinline
