I tried searching this topic, but little info surfaced. If threaded already, I apologize.

What are the differences? Which one is the better liked? And why.

I have a 68 and tried the 65. To my ears the 68 isnt as sparkly with more bass and mids. For me its a perfect fit with my 65 deluxe reverb as the dr is more scooped in the mids. Thre 68 gives me a different tonal palate.

Overall I think the 65 is better liked because it is a reissue of the original 65 . I think both are great amps with great reverb and tremolo. The 68 is different sounding than the drri IMO. There is some good youtube videos comparing the two. Ultimately the best thing to do is try them in person. I prefer the 68 , most prefer the 65 , but ymmv.

Hi!

Yes, what budg said - both are nice, but surprisingly different when played/compared in person.
The ´68 is warmer/more middy and overdrives earlier/more readily. The ´65 is cleaner with more "snap".

cheers - C.

One thing about both amps is that you can run them into extension cabs.

I have the '65 and frequently run it into a Carvin 1x12 with a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. It gets me somewhere between the '65 and '68.

I suspect that if you ran the "68 into a Jensen speaker equipped cab you might also get something between the two.

Looks wise I prefer the Blackface look of the '65. It's actually one of the reasons I got it instead of the '68.
