Just keep in mind that these things take a long time to "come on". You won't feel any effect for as much as an hour. Many folks make the mistake of re-dosing then end up incredibly high.

If you're going to ingest, do it like Cheech. Edibles are for wusses.
Love,
CG who's never had an edible (or any variation for many years). I keep saying I've got to go on a road trip to Oregon to see what all the fuss is about.

I have a little recent experience with this since I found some for my wife to ease the effects of chemo. If you have not indulged for some time, you need to stay in the 10-20 mg range unless you really want to get high and then move up. Make sure you eat some real food first and don't partake on an empty stomach. Remember it can take longer than 30 minutes to work so don't get impatient and think it's not working, take more, and then have it all hit you. In small doses it is very good for mellowing out anxiety. It did a good job with easing the pain for my wifes cancer even at the 10-20 mg range of dosage.

I once ate a crushed gram of hash on a pizza. Does that count as edible?

You're talking about edibles, so you're talking about a strong "body high", too, not just light body + cerebral. It can be pretty intense sometimes.
I don't think that's the best starting point, but it's not to say you can't pull it off if you start out cautiously. If you nail the dose, you'll be laughing your ass off for the first 30 minutes straight, and coast from there. It is easy to over do it though. If you over do it, it could be unpleasant, cause you distress, and it's going to take longer to wear off than it would have you just smoked some.
If you haven't smoked in 30 years, some medium grade bud will knock your socks off. Talking, a puff, and go from there.
Today's medium grade bud, can sometimes be stronger than the skunk of the late 80's and early 90's which was damn good, and tasty, but not as available.
Of course there's are a lot of variables, such as strain type, and how that type affects you. The Sativas are considered to be better for staying active, and are more cerebral, whereas the Indicas are heavy on the body high side, and lean towards what is called "couch lock". So, there's that, and everything in between. The nice thing is, at least around here, they usually have the potency marked, so you kind of know what you're buying.
The Hash is a nice treat, too. Hash is so tasty, and smooth. Always loved Hash. Before everything became mainstream, it was always a surprise to run into some Hash. Now it's common, and very available.
Everything I just relayed, I heard from a guy living in a van, down by the river.

Saw this article recently and I thought it might help. I too have considered trying edibles but frankly, as I haven’t touched cannabis in a long time, I’m very cautious about it.

2018 Weed Primer 101
Chuckling; one of my remaining 'fortes'.
Yes, current weed is more powerful than most remember. Especially if you've been outa the loop for a while.
There are currently 3 different 'types' of weed available at any dispensary.
Sativa, Hybrid and Indica.
Sativa is the 'mind' high, Indica is the 'body' high. Sativa gets you trippin', Indica gets you couch locked, sleepy and hungry. Hybrids are a genetic mix of both, crafted by grafting Sats and Indicas. It's hard to find the 'original' Sativas anymore, as they've been grafted out of existence. I was never a fan of Indicas.
As far as edibles go, I've tried Sats and Hybrids. Hybrids are a crapshoot, the sat high comes on for a good time, but the indica high kicks in later and WILL put you to sleep.
Best bet (imho): A sativa edible.
More 'controllable' than the hybrid. Stays on what it produces without changes.
Dispensaries have edibles in many concoctions. Gummy bears, gummy worms, chocolates, etc. I opted for chocolates, as the dosage is easier to figure out. Most edibles come in 10 mg doses (chunks), usually a package of 10. They generally run $10-$25 for a pack of 10.
At the very LEAST, check out a dispensary.
Just for the show of it all!
If you decide to partake, when you hit the dispensary ask for Sativa edibles. They'll shuffle you down the counters to the edible section (no joke). Get a pack of 10 mg chocolates. First time out, I started slow = one 10 mg chunk on an empty stomach.
Took about 45 min to an hour to come on.
Went well. No over trippin' or freak out zones.
In your case, I'd start with half a chocolate (5 mg) and wait to see what comes up.
DON'T take another bite for at least an hour!!!
The high is definitely different than what happens when you smoke. More mellow, but much longer lasting. I've had rolls that lasted 6-8 hours! The whole time I could walk, talk, chew gum and walk around outside trippin' to my heart's content. That's just me, YMMV!
Good luck, happy trails and all that...
I recommend breaking out some old music from your earlier days to listen to while trippin'!

Hmmm -- not what I thought this thread was going to be about.
I don't know where I was when you guys were growing up -- but I had no idea.
Anyway -- have a nice "trip" 18.

"It was his first day off in forever, man
The festival seemed like a pretty good plan,
Cruise some chicks and get a sun-tan.
And his friend gave him four, but said only take one,
But then he got bored and ended up taking all four.
Ah, so now my man ain't that bored anyways,
The paramedics found him: he was shaking on the side of the stage."

There are two shops within walking distance of our camp site. We’re not going to partake. We both have well paid corporate gigs and could get tested at any time. It’s not worth the risk and I don’t want to find out if I like it.

Yeah, if no Cannabis is a CCE (condition of continued employment) then, smart move. My bro in law's company does random testing, even for tobacco use. He's had co-workers terminated for smoking a cigar at a bachelor party.

Good decision.
No idea what is in that stuff. You could have an adverse allergic reaction to an ingredient.
Once you get past a certain age, experimenting with new chemical amusements becomes quite risky, especially if you're on prescription meds to start with.
Go with what you know (cheap gin, etc.).

Seriously? That's pretty hard core. Can they fire someone for tabacco use? I've never heard of that.

^Yessir. It's a contractual agreement. Other things this company does is penalize the employees/family members with health insurance compensation if they don't meet a criteria; BMI, cholesterol. They also won't insure you if you own a motorcycle. Hardcore indeed.

It’s kind of fun walking around Manitou Springs trying to figure out who’s stoned. Lots of man buns here so they are probably high.

This thread reminds me of the time - so many years ago - that my ex and I consumed a stout batch of brownies at Disneyland.
Now that was fun!

Smart decision, 18. If you are subject to drug testing by an employer, partaking is a really bad idea.
That's why I always liked working for me. ;o)
