ejm - I wonder why Fender is not being very transparent about where they're made? Marketing ploy?

Yep!
There was absolutely no need to do it. But they did.

I suspect an upcoming sale on the lefty Standards, though. There are still plenty of those in the marketplace.

Could be that with the current political climate, Mexico (and Canada) have become big-time scapegoats for certain folks. I'll stop there...

Leftee, that graphic in your link reminded me...
Australia being part of the "Commonwealth", we get a fair number of Canadians down here.
If ever you want to stir them up, just ask them if they're North American!!! They hate that!

I give Fender credit for offering it in 7 colors! I’ve been grumping for years about their usual 1,2, or 3 colors they usually offer.
It also comes SSS, HSS, or HSH. Yikes! Variety!

I did try out one of the HSS models over the weekend and it was good playing, great sounding Strat. Basically, these guitars have a whole lot in common with the MIA Pro Series that the gap has been narrowed considerably. Bout versions have 22-frets, 2-point vibratos, and the MIM now has the tone control wired to the bridge pick up...and with Alnico pick ups too. I now have to wonder if its worth to spend about twice the money for the American Professional when the new MIM offers pretty much the same thing (although I have not done a thorough comparison between the two).

I read (on the internet, of course) that this could be part of Gibson's financial woes....why buy the expensive Gibson when the much less expensive Epiphone is a pretty damn good guitar? Is Fender shooting themselves in the foot by making the Player "too good"? An American Strat is still a lot less than most Gibsons so maybe it won't have the same effect.

They might have set it up to where the overhead is the same or even more on the less expensive guitar. Not likely, but possible.

Gibson’s problems stemmed from all the other business they tried to play in.

Yea, Gibson's guitar end of things has been profitable this whole time.
And they're putting out MIA set-neck guitars with..a lot more time invested than the bolt-on babies we know and love...for cheaper in a lot of areas.

I’d never heard of it before these. That doesn’t mean they haven’t used it, though.

I own 2 pearl white Am Dlx HSS Strats which is yet another color of WHITE.
ps - I installed a gold pickguard on one of these so they're not exactly the same looking. See, I'm not totally nuts! (;oD
