I regret to inform you that the newish Squier Contemporary Strat HSS is ab fab!

I'd though these looked killer cool with the blueish-purpleish metallic finish with matching headstock, but thought it "can't play or sound that well, right?" WRONG!

If you want a guitar to shred on, but are not that serious about shredding and don't want to spend a lot, get one of these! Even the pickups sound pretty good. The new 2-point bridge is very nice.

The fretboard radius is 12"

Bingo!

So did you buy one, or just play one in a shop?

I bought a Squier Deluxe Strat back in January and it's a great guitar and great value.

The Deluxe are MII and sort of one step under the Classic Vibes. The stock pickups are Duncan Designed (MIK) single coils that sound fantastic.

I went to buy a new capo and came home with the capo AND a Contemporary Strat HSS.

This color and the matching headstock really attracted me, but I didn't think it would play or sound that well. I was wrong. (:oD I'm surprised at how nice everything is on this guitar, including the hardware.

IMO the Squier line has completely replaced the MIM Standards. And better bang for the buck, too!

Congrats! That is a looker for sure. Love the color.

I played it again this morning and my opinion has not changed. Also, this guitar was set up well, including the intonation.

"Crafted in China" shouldn't scare off serious guitarists, considering that Eastwood makes fairly high end archtops there.

I have some other nice and fairly inexpensive MIC guitars (Epi ES-335 and Swingster). The majority of the guitars are MIA (Fender, Gibson, PRS).

I'm not afraid of anything not done at bottom barrel price point and managed by a known quantity.

The MIC Epi Casino sounds...like a Casino. Plays like one too. It's objectively as *good* a guitar as my MIA 339...for playability and quality of sound. It just doesn't have that final fit/finish/etc but, well, it didn't have a 1 in front of the price that the 339 did!

Rob - It's crazy how good import guitars have become. Of course a company like Gretsch makes nearly all their guitars in Japan or South Korea.

Gretsch does have a custom shop here in the U. S. of A. I have MIK and MIJ Gretches and pretty much the big difference is the poly finish on the imports. The quality of the imports is amazingly good.

The only thing I wish is that they had done them without a pickguard. But otherwise, I am liking these a lot.

Peegoo - The FREAKIN' MIJ are too much for most of us GOOMbahs! I retired early as a SQUIER largely because my wife is miser!

Thus it's a hit and run game. What my wife "don't know" is a 'TING that is, what you call it, magical! (;oD

Rob - The one I bought doesn't have a Floyd Rose system.

There is another Contemporary Strat model that comes with two active humbuckers and a Floyd system. It has a reverse headstock.
