Now I have a dilemma. I have $200 saved up but I've been jonesing for a Wampler Tumnus Deluxe forever.

I already have six electrics and I really like my Tele with the Lollars. Also, I'd need at least another $300 after the body to finish the project.

Tumnus...or new body? Hmmm!

"What will you use more?"

The Tumnus would go on my board so it would be used every time. If I go to 7 electrics, the new one would be used 1/7 of the time.

Foggy, do tell!

The Tumnis is my favorite pedal and is always on. I don't have the deluxe, but have the small one. I have an uncle who's been playing/gigging for over 50 years.

He told me the same thing about the Tumnis and he was right.

Thanks!

I ordered the Tumnus Deluxe last night. The guitar build will come at a later date.

Now, I need to decide what comes off my board. It'll probably be the tremolo since I rarely use it.

You can’t go wrong!

I have yet to own or play a Wampler pedal. But I'm about sold on the Plexi Drive Deluxe.

Yep! That one has my eye too.

I had a Paisley Drive but it just wasn't my style (too trebly). I sold it it for what I paid for it.

I've been prowling them on Reverb. My only question is, do I want the Deluxe or just the Plexi Drive?

I don't "need" any pedals - just to be clear. (-;

I ordered the pedal directly from Wampler's site I wish I would've ordered it from Sweetwater for the same price and I'd have it by now. :o|

Tone is in the lingers

The Tumnus came last night. I stuck in on my board downstream of my Keeley Blues Drives and before the Fulltone Plimsoul. I have only my Boss Katana 50 at home (tube amp is at church) so I set it up for a clean tone. I EQ'd the three pedals for just above unity gain with mild OD and it was apparent the Tumnus really colors the tone. It cuts the highs and adds a lot of midrange. It almost sounds muffled unless the highs are cranked.

It doesn't have anywhere close to the clarity of the BD-2, and even the Plimsoul is more transparent. I played with the buffer switch but not much difference.

I watched virtually every video on this pedal and the highs didn't sound this muffled. I know the Tumnus is supposed to emulate the Klon Centaur. It this tone a characteristic of the Klon?

I'll be anxious to try it with my VHT amp to see how it responds with tubes.

My Pigtronix Fat Drive is the same way. The tone control only cuts the highs. So I leave it all the way up for OD with relatively unaltered tone shaping.

From the Wampler website:

“Active bass and mid controls boost or cut the desired frequencies
A classic treble control like the original perfects the pedal’s higher frequencies”

I’m guessing the treble is a passive control. It only cuts.

You’re welcome!

If it were me I’d whack the treble all the way up and adjust bass and mids to taste.

With my Fat Drive I just leave to tone control (it only has one) turned all the way up. That works extremely well for me.

I tried it tonight with the treble 'almost' wide open and it had more clarity. But it definitely is brighter than the clean tone.

No matter which OD's I try, there's one thing I've learned over and over. Nothing will ever bump my Keeley Blues Drive from my pedalboard.

Good deal!

I’m sort of becoming a “single tone control” guy with regard to pedals. I find the simpler circuits work better for me.
