FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Telecasters / Convert a Standard HH to SS

Love my new Mexi HH Tele even with the silver/black pickup look. ;-) Totally digging the Pau Ferro fretboard, too, so much so that I want to cop another one of these guitars & convert it to SS. I know I can replace the pickguard with one w/mount for a single coil, no problem. And I know I can get a humbucker-to-single coil adaptor ring for the bridge 'bucker that would allow me to drop a single coil pickup in the bridge position humbucker ring, should I choose that route.

However, I'd like to, if possible, not do that. Here's my other option I'm considering & was wondering if anyone else has done this.
From comparing pics it looks as though a Mexi Std bridge as on a SS model would fit over the removed humbucker & removed stock bridge, replacing them neatly in the bridge position & allowing me to use a way cool Tele bridge pickup of doom.

Has anyone done this?

It's totally possible, but there are variances in the size of the footprint of typical Tele bridge plates, and variances in the size of the routs in the many Tele bodies available.

I mention this because routing often changes over the course of production of a specific body model numeber.

Best course of action would be to remove all the hardware from the body in question, and then take careful measurements of the bridge location and routing, using the strings' through-holes as your index.

Next, look at the various bridge plates available to select one that adequately covers the routing, while attaching in the proper location permit string-through loading.

Edited: What the H-E-double-hockey-sticks is a 'numeber'?

Holy shmoly, there's an entire community built around misspelling of the word 'number'.

Pinetree, you may have found the dead-end street at the end of the Internet.

Another option would be to just get a black Standard Tele and swap out the neck with a pau ferro from an HH. You'd still need to score a black pickguard, though.

What Peegoo said. (with the exception of "numeber")

Many after-market hardware mfr's will show technical drawings with all the critical dimensions shown.

Also, I used a Wilkinson bridge on a MIM tele and it was drop-in replacement.

Just as an example, here's a drawing of the

the one I used

Instead of guessing....Get the body that matches.
MF has them for $169. Then part out the other body and pickups, or keep them and make another project!

Or just hang on to it until you put it back together and sell it!
I had a red one and it worked fine, but I sold it to finance a Warmoth body.
