I'll be making corned beef and cabbage tomorrow -- which is not at all unusual for me because I make it often for Grilled Reubens.

I'll go about my business. I almost always pay with cash -- so good old American currency will be the extent of my wearin' o' the green.

I did buy my wife a six pack of Guinness.

I prefer an American pale ale.

I don't eat or drink the green stuff at this time of year. I do have a gig tonight and the house is serving us corned beef and cabbage. I like CB&B.

My BIL's (may he RIP) wife is Irish and a pretty good cook. She made up and gave each of the in-law families a loaf of Irish Soda Bread. I just didn't see the reason for it's popularity. Kind of tasted a bit strange and almost metallicy to me. My wife felt the same way. We didn't have anything to judge it by as it was the only time we've tried it.

CB & C? Now, that's a different story.

But to answer the Rev, we haven't done it up this year.

Cheers,
JAFO

I have a t-Shirt with an Irish flag on it, I’ll wear that. But that’s about the extent of it for me.

The Mrs. will be whipping up a Shepherd's Pie tomorrow. Looking forward to digging into that. We got the recipe from a Brit I had the pleasure working with overseas. It is good.

re: soda bread

"I just didn't see the reason for it's popularity. Kind of tasted a bit strange and almost metallicy to me."

There are many different kinds of soda bread, however the the common denominator is using bicarb soda instead of yeast as the leavening agent.

By and large the breads are of the savoury variety and I think Americans are more accustomed to associating sweet with similar rustic-type breads.

We do a version that kind of crosses both worlds which incorporates caraway seeds (the savoury) and black currants (the sweet). It's typically served as a side with a stew or soup (we like it buttered too). It's also yummy on it's own sliced and toasted (and buttered, of course).

Erin go bra-less!!!

I'll be attending the Kansas vs Seton Hall 2nd Round game in the NCAA Tournament so I won't be wearing green. I'll be spending it though! Prices are stupid at the arenas!

I haven't worn green since I read Dress for Success. John T. Molloy wrote that if you wear green, people think you are lying.

Mick, thanks for the Soda Bread lowdown. We still didn't much care for it, though.

No change here. I don't need a holiday to go out and get smashed. Most days are sufficient motivation!

Had some some shepherds pie for dinner and watched "Darby O'Gill and the little people," kind of a tradition for us. Might go out and see my two friends who are playing some Celtic music at a small bar later tonight.

I normally avoid McDonald's like the plague, but yesterday I went there and had a shamrock shake.

Didn't taste anything like I remembered.

We stopped by Mc-D's last night to get the daughter a shamrock shake. She has one every year. It's one of her things.
