Gibson is laying off employees at their custom shop. Sounds like their problems are not going away.

That's not a very good sign.

I have a Gibson CS acoustic/electric, but it wasn't crazy expensive (just over $2k). Of course I bought it around 18 years ago.

It's all gravy from here on...

This story may not be all that. They laid off 12-15 employees from the custom shop. The real story might be how many they have left. As we all were already aware, Gibson was down-sizing the facilities so it stands to reason there would be a corresponding reduction in manpower. Sales are off from past years so resizing facilities are reactions to market forces. Can Gibson exist as a smaller entity. I would bet they can.

You're old. Then vintage. Then good!

I see Gibson Acoustics in Bozeman, MT as almost (*almost*) a different entity than Gibson Nashville/Memphis.

Not sure how their acoustic division is doing overall - I play them when I'm in a shop that has a few, and the acoustics overall seem well built, and a few even sound pretty nice. I feel like I got lucky with my lefty J-45 from a couple years ago (ordered sight unseen/unplayed/unheard...). Mine's a keeper.
