I was stationed in Germany in the late 80s, early 90s and it was commonplace for people to turn off their ignition while waiting at for example of railroad crossing or a stoplight.

But yeah, that was probably a hybrid.

My BIL came down to visit in his new Chevy Equinox. It would do that. Kinda disconcerting, I wouldn't like that.

My 2012 BMW did that. You can turn it off but have to do it each time you start the car. I got used to it, plus you could manipulate the gas/brake pedal to start it back up if you needed to get off the line fast.

The 2018 ford trucks do it also. Have to buy an aftermarket tuner to turn it off, dealer might if you beg.

Not for me.

Test drove a Jeep that did that. Has an override switch, though.

0.04 percent of the atmosphere is carbon dioxide and plants need it.

But we got to reduce our "carbon footprint"

Our Volvo did that, but also has an override button. Very annoying. However, since a recent massive engine failure and repair (covered under warranty, but still), the thing doesn't work. Problem solved.

No regular gas engines.

Looks like I was wrong, the Ford can be shut off.

We have a 2017 and a 2018 vehicle. Neither does that. Guessing a V8 is exempt.

My 2017 F150 has a button on the dash to disable the auto shut-down so it's easy to change. I was skeptical at first but I'm used to it now. It's always been ready to go when I am. I don't even notice it anymore.

As K4's link confirms, my F150 has the V6 Ecoboost engine.

Every model BMW that has a gasoline engine has that feature. But it's now a global setting to turn it off and stay off for good if you want it that way. I turned it off after trying it out for a few days. Gas mileage does improve at the expense of engine mounts, the starter etc etc.

I was given a Nissan Rogue loaner (2017) when mine was in for service and the Nissan had the feature too.

So when the engine shuts off, you would have no AC. That would not work for me in traffic jams in the summer, or even stop and go city driving.
