Are there any opinions on the Seymour Duncan line of Jazzmaster pickups.

I have the Antiquity PUs in my Offset Special. I like them a lot. To me they feel and sound smooth and responsive. That middle position is just awesome, bridge/neck.

In comparing them to a set of Fender '67 RIs that I have in my MIJ Jazzmaster, they are every bit as good. Certainly an improvement over any ceramic or humbucker JM PU out there. I actually like the Offset Special better sound wise than a '62 AVRI JM I once owned.

I have been toying with either replacing this CIJ's pickups with another set of Jazzmaster designed (style) pickups, or putting in a set of Seymour Duncan humbuckers that are sized for Jazzmaster covers. That second option would require finding an appropriate humbucker that when split switched (wired) will provide a good single coil tone. I intend to purchase a MIM Jazzmaster Classic Player, so that frees me up to experimenter with the CIJ.

Anyone here have recommendations for a humbucker that provides good split tones?

Thanks.

I'd just buy a JM with buckers if that is what you are after. IMO, I've never really enjoyed a split humbucker. It just will not give you a JM tone. P90s would come close and there are some very good P90s that fit in a HD route.

The JM sized humbucks that came in my Offset Special were not splitable. They are a stacked design and are taller than a standard JM PU. They may not fit in an actual JM guitar unless the body was routed deeper. I would imagine they could be sent to a PU builder and wired to split however.

Yeah, I already have the CIJ that I can use as an experimentation platform, but when it comes to buying new pickups I would like to minimize the attempts.

Seymour Duncan does sale the Jazzmaster sized humbuckers, in which you can buy as most of the humbuckers in their lineup in that fit option. So, considering the alder wood body, certain pickups will work better for the split operation.
