FDP Forum / Moe's Tavern (_8^(I) / Will your local cafe fill your personal own coffee cup ?

At the local cafe the is a sign saying that they will fill customer's own coffee cups or mugs in order to reduce the number of disposable cups.

Is this common in your part of the world ?

I imagine it could become a legal problem if someone becomes ill from drinking out of their own mug.

Whose responsibilty is it that the cup or mug is clean ?
Does the cafe clean the mug before use ?

Enquiring minds want to know

You can buy a cup/mug from many convenience stores and bring it in to fill. That’s been going on for years here.

I'm a "Sheetz Freak", (convience store-gas station indigenous to the Northeast) so I have a special cup that gets me the refill price.

I like Sheetz as well. It’s ok coffee away from home.

Mind you, that is most coffee away from home.

Mine will. I'm a regular and they probably wouldn't even charge me for it!

A true café, a sit down place, maybe not. Kind of tacky. We have a national chain called Panera Bread however that refills no questions asked. I think they even sell branded cups. The coffee is self serve and you order at a counter.

If you have a server/waitress I think it's kind of frowned upon. Any place that is self-serve it is open season on refill cups.

When I'm on the road, I typically buy a cup at whatever Starbucks is near and also have them fill my thermos.

At my local dive diner, you can bring your own cup. As far as take-out, take-out?

We have a convenience store around here called Wawa (similar to Sheetz). Big in the Philly/S. Jersey area but spreading.

You can fill your own cup and I do. Get the refill price also. Owner is responsible for cleanliness.
