An old buddy came down and visited with me for the week, we’ve known each other since high school, I don’t have too many friends I’ve known that long.

He has a few motorcycles he’s not riding anymore. We made a deal and I’m getting his 1970 R75-5 BMW, bone stock, running good, a bit of wear and tear on the seat but he told me he has a few stripped seat pans and other parts he’s collected over the years, all stock. I don’t have it yet, It’s a view miles north of north central Florida up in New Hampshire. I’ve got a friend and neighbor who goes up every year and he may be able to bring it down for me, If not it’ll be a nice ride to pick it up. I’ll be a little better than half way there when I attend Victor Wooten’s Bass camp in May.

“love those Airhead”

Yeah, it’s like half a Volkswagen. The picture I clipped of the internet is how I’ll want to set it up. Clean and it’s all visible.

Oh. I’ll get it. He’s giving it to me for a really good price, below market value, He knows he could get more for it but that’s not what’s important to him. Plus next time he comes to FLorida I’ll have two bikes and he can use the old Beamer while he’s here, or the old Softail if he wishes

I came across this old bike a bit over a year ago in Lake City and got the bug to get into a vintage bike project. This old Honda is a first of it’s kind. I remember when they first came out.

Yeah, I’m a Harley guy but I get excited by cool bikes, doesn’t matter who made them, well it mostly doesn’t matter “o)

Any old bike thats still around probably has a few redeeming qualities.
The older beemers were famous in a lot of circles as being fixable with a bobby pin found alongside the road if it broke at all. A lot of the old Goldwings were hosses as well. That motor design wasn't chosen at random. On both bikes they were about bulletproof.

My brother had an old R69-s BMW that hauled a sidecar all over Europe for years. Lord knows how many miles and it went everywhere he and his wife and daughter wanted to go. As long as you could fix a tire you were good to go. He used to tell me the only place he couldn't go with it was when a guy with a gun stepped out of the guard shack and told you to turn around. After he passed away it was sold to a friend of mine who's a collector and he loves it. He swears you can't kill them.

I still have two legs instead of just one because once, when I dumped the bike and slid for a distance on VERY rough pavement, one of the horizontally-opposed cylinders held the bike off my leg and the valve cover took the abuse instead.

Yeah, easier and less painful to replace a valve cover “o)
