We all want

our time in hell

I suppose I just don't get the massive hate.

I've ordered three Gibsons in the last three years.

I've kept (and love) all three.

Two came with robotuners from the factory.

A third, well, I added them because I liked them enough!

Different folks want different things.

I absolutely love, love, love the High Performance Les Pauls. The wider fretboard works for me in a way that normal ones don't, and there was absolutely zero QC problems with them.

And the Memphis 339 that I added evil robots to needed a few minutes for a setup.

That's all the time I've had to spend on any of them, and love them for what they are.

My last two guitar purchases (both of them Martins) were made at GC. Was that a mistake? You gotta know what you want before you go there. Don't expect any competent help. And bring your own chair and ladder.

Don't conflate Henry's attributes (bless his heart) with Gibson products and quality as a whole. I've seen too many people hate Gibson because they hate Henry.

My local GC has a very nice acoustic room separate from the rest of the store. The salespeople are mostly dicks but the facility is quite nice.

"I suppose I just don't get the massive hate."

That's a stretch in my opinion.

Dislike of an apparently greedy and ineffective corporate magnate and a retailer that is universally known to be unprofessional does not equate to "hate".

I hate intolerance and I hate opportunists and thieves, neither Henry nor GC rank that high.

Mockery is not hate.
My opinion.

Hey, I bought a Ram truck and a Gibson last year.

I don’t get all the hate either. But it’s a free country.

"My local GC has a very nice acoustic room separate from the rest of the store. The salespeople are mostly dicks but the facility is quite nice."

Most GCs are this way. They have an acoustic room and then a high end acoustic room attached to it that is climate controlled. It's still had to find a good selection of instruments. When you do find something you wish to play there may be a couple of young guys in there jamming so it's hard to heard what you came for.

The high end electric room at my local GC has been scrapped and turned into a lesson room. GC is giving lessons now and has rearranged the entire store (mostly) to make room for the "learning center" studio rooms.

To add,
facts don't equate to "hate".. Just facts.

Observations do not equate to "hate" just factual first hand observation.

It just sounds like bitter hatred, Jeff. No offense intended. But that’s how it reads. (-:

Yea, agreed on the "how it reads."

I can dislike a company or their direction as well, but...I can admit when they still make nice things.

Fender's making decent stuff still that I can tell, I just don't understand their pricing ($2k for a Jaguar with proper appointments for an American model...at the baseline?)

Gibson can be run by the devil himself if they're making stuff as nice as the last guitars I've gotten by them!

Henry should lay off.

I have owned a few Gibsons... to include a 1946 J-45 Banner, a 1969(?) Heritage dreadnought, a 1914 A-1 Mandolin, a 1922 Snakehead mandolin and a late 90s WM-45.. they were all excellent and that is why I bought them.
I find nothing from Gibson in recent years to match any of those.

My 2017 LP Standard is an excellent instrument. I'll never own a CS-level instrument unless an insane deal falls in my lap.

A 2018 Gibson could find its way to my home. They have some lefty offerings I really like.

They have provided us backwards fellas some excellent lefties in recent years. I'm one of those cost-conscious guys that really shops price. That said, I found *the* LP I wanted last year (at Sam Ash) and paid what they asked. I have no buyers remorse. Even the deal-hound in me is fine with this purchase.

I want to see Gibson healthy. I'm not seeing how that will happen under current leadership.

Like the Rev, I have found their current offerings quite tasty.

There's a guy over on a lefty forum I frequent who has bought *5* new Gibson lefties *THIS YEAR*!!! 4 electrics and one acoustic (Hummingbird). He couldn't be happier.

I know what he's doing. He's topping up on the models they usually don't make for us. And topping up in case they don't/can't recover.

love love love it

I really think, price is one of the major issues for Gibson. Being a retailer in menswear, American products have gone up in price more than double in the last 10 years. I don't know if it's inflation, the value of the dollar or both. A Les Paul Standard was about $1799 back around 2005 or so. Now you're talking about kissing $3000. That is a major increase and if wages haven't gone up to counter that, it becomes an issue. It makes buying a used Gibson that much more enticing. I will agree that Guitar Center stores are a problem with their employees. It seems that they only hire slackers. Perhaps they don't have a commission system. If you're selling guitars, you need hungry salesmen to move them. If Gibson guitars were perhaps mostly selling online, there wouldn't be problem perhaps, but I feel that price may be a big part.

I bought mine online from SA. It's usually my only option. Great pictures along with actual weights of the guitars really helps. That all the guitars are Plek'd also helps. My setup was great right out of the case.

I, too, would like to see GIBSON survive without Henry J.

GC announced about 2-3 years ago a new commison/compensation program for their sales staff. None of the people who were there at that time were there 6 months later. They have half that number of people on the floor. And not one of them ( my last visit was brief about 3 weeks ago, I look in the acoustic room for used) has a clue about acoustic guitars.
BTW their acoustic room is grim and cold and drafty and more often than not the humidifier is not working.. do they know it requires water?
Aside from that , a few cheap Martins, a mess of Taylors, sometimes as many as 3 of each model in the low to mid-low series, 3 Gibsons and all the rest are Chinese junque.
Dirty, old strings, scratched and dented from no supervision, many in alternate tunings from the last whanger.

Just the facts.

I don’t know if that article/interview was edited or not, but he didn’t seem to have a lot of solutions. Henry is lucky he isn’t reporting to shareholders.

I think shareholders will be reading this.. news travels fast.

But, if he holds the greater number of shares to exceed 50%..
