I have used several MFX boxes over the years. I like having one neat package vs a tangle of cables, power supplies and such. I currently have a Mustang Floorboard and a TC Nova System. Each has its merits. But I keep hearing how some of the touring pros are using the Fractal FX and loving it. Anybody here have any experience with the Fractal? Is it worth the higher price tag?

I have a bandmate that uses the Fractal and it is really incredible. It just takes a little it of dialing in your patches and then you've got just about anything you want at your disposal. But at the same time, I really like my Mustang III v2. He just has so many more options. He also bought the midi footswitch with an expression pedal. He goes straight into the PA and doesn't use an amp on stage.

Why do I keep fixing things that work?

Man, I bet a Fractal Axe Effects unit with a tubed power amp would be incredible!
A guy I know has one and is using a couple of powered speakers and it sounds amazing, but have always thought that he should have been using a tubed power amp along with his powered monitors to make it an entire rig. It doesn't sound sterile at any rate, but my thoughts were that if he had used a powered tubed amp for his main sound, he would have an amazing dimensional projection to the audience and just continue to use his monitors for reference purposes. The amp he's using now is a Triax(sp), which is a 3 channel power amp/solid state and has a massive amount of power for any application. I think it is something like 500 watts per channel and can run a stereo rig and monitors from that one amp.
The main speakers are cabinets that are odd looking but also sound amazing. They look like a bunch of 12" speaker boxes that are stacked at different angles, on top of each other and uses EV 15" floor monitors for reference. The main cabs are not separated but are built like offset columns. These are also loaded with 12" EV L's. It gives you forward and side fill sounds at the same time! Glad I'm not lugging those monsters around!
Must be nice to be a Pro and have roadies tote that mess around for you!

I know a guy who brings his Axe Fx to the local buskers night. He's a monster player with top Pro gear (Gibson CS, Fender CS, Suhr, LSL). It's the best sounding rig I've ever heard, apart from possibly the same guy's Bogner Shiva combo.

Mind you, he sounds great through a Marshall Valvestate combo ;-)

If money was no object I'd buy one of each;-)

They're definitely nice units with great tones from what I've heard but, out of my range price wise.

I went with the Helix from Line 6 and I've been very happy with that choice.

I gig with a Fractal AX8. They do make top notch gear. So nice not lugging amps and a pedal board - yet still having all of them in one floor until.

The modelers like the Fractal are designed to be used with exactly the type of full-range power amp setup your friend is using, not tubes.

They're already emulating a ton of things, and it turns into preamp on preamp on preamp on coloration that isn't necessarily pleasant with a tube power section.

Rev, the Fractal Ax8 does the amp modeling bit. The FX is just that, tons of effects, no amp modeling.

Fair enough!

Just that those using a Fractal with those speakers are likely using the "with amps!"
