FDP Forum / Guitar Mods, Repairs, and Projects / Home-brew wipe-on poly question

I've been using a DIY wipe-on poly (50/50 poly/mineral spirits) on my current project.

Working great, however, this morning I opened the can (well sealed) and it had gone gelatinous.

I just used it yesterday afternoon, so it turned overnight. It was initially mixed up about 5 days ago (?).

So my question is can I bring it back by adding more spirits, or would there have been some change in the chemistry that would render it unusable? (possibly unable to set properly?)

I have more poly & mixed up a fresh batch to keep going, but thought I'd pose the question before chucking it out.

TIA

Hmmm...not worth the risk, IMO.

If it's gelling in the sealed container, there's some woo-woo polymerization occurring between the solids.

Not exactly confidence-inspiring.

That's exactly what I was thinking! Bloody woo-woo!

Thanks P.
