I just saw this on the steelguitarforum dot com today and though I'd share.

Ever had trouble when swapping pickups getting a screw/spring to stay on?
Especially when you're dealing with multiple screws/springs?
Answer: Make a little cardboard "nut".

Cool! I like it. These springs are why most times I use tubing.

Very good, I'm sure I will use that one at some point.

Kind of like those little black sheet plastic rectangular push-on screw retainers that come on home electric switches, wall sockets and the like to keep the screws captive while you're lining things up and starting the screw, especially when working overhead. Wonder if you can buy those somewhere?

And as one of the commenters on the Steel Guitar Forum said, you can just leave them in there.
