No one should be depressed by a 99 year old man evading his letter from the Queen.

I saw him twice in my life:

The first was when I was a pre-schooler and did not know who he was. Or exactly where we were. Early 1950s. Decades later I learned from my mother it was State Fair Stadium in Shreveport. LA.

The other time was in 2006 in New Orleans, in the arena now known as the Smoothie King Arena. I believe that was his very last time to preach.

Edited to add: It was March 12, 2006. Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder were there with him and performed.

"I've always loved his crackers."

Gato, are you aware of the original reason Graham crackers were marketed?

The seamy side of health food!

Peegoo .... Yes, I am aware. I was making a pre-caffeine joke.

Everyone knows that Graham crackers were invented by Alexander Graham Bell .... who also invented the bell, by the way.

Bell was in Langley's camp (vs. the Wrights) on the development of the airplane. But then Bell bailed and stuck with kites. Weird.

My dad was a Baptist preacher who bought our first TV in 1954. We were the first family on our block and several blocks around to have a TV set.

His justification was to see Billy Graham when he appeared on TV.

That and baseball and boxing.

Not familiar with him at all, other than by his name and that he’s not Superstar Billy Graham.

I notice just now as they bring his body up the Capitol steps, his coffin is simply a *pine box* and not of particularly elaborate construction or finish at all.

Rev. Graham's coffin was made at Angola Prison in Louisiana. His wife's was as well.

"Rev. Graham's coffin was made at Angola Prison in Louisiana. His wife's was as well."

Just heard that detail on the news. It is fitting. I noticed the coffin as it sat in NC the other day and realized then it was not ornate.

It was this morning that I saw it with enough clarity to see the material ... the knots in the pine surface and the end grain of the boards.

I love the fact that Graham reconfirmed before he died that you CANNOT earn you way into Heaven with good deeds.

He was humble sinner just like every other Christian trying to stay on the righteous path, but stumbling at times.

His funeral service (celebration) is being streamed live today (officially starts at 12/noon Eastern). Don't have a link for you, but NBC is streaming something on YouTube, and other places are carrying it as well.

Lots of them are overloaded, though - can't keep it streaming because of the high traffic.
