You may have read my previous posts about PUP recommendations.
Well I pulled the trigger on a set of Tonerider "City Limits".
I have a HWY Strat that I purchased second hand. It is the only Strat amongst my 10 guitars. It started out with a mixed set of Lace Sensor's, which I never really bonded with. I then thought Fender Hot Noiseless would be a great idea. No hum right? However recently I played a friend's American Standard. I could hear the difference immediately. Back to back I could hear the sound I was missing.
This is now for the first time a true Strat and I'm loving the chime and note articulation. It just sounds alive.
For me the HN PUPS sounded compressed and with a narrower frequency band.
Tonerider's should be on your shopping list if you're considering upgrading your Strat's single coils. Highly recommended.

He doesn’t really hate it. (-;

Glad you had a great outcome.

I’ve used several of their humbuckers with nice results. I still have one guitar with ‘em installed.

Do they have the single coil 60-cycle hum?

Yes they do...they don't incorporate any noise-reduction in the design.

They're a modern re-creation of the original Fender single coil for Strats and Teles. The initial production of the Fender Classic Vibe import line was issued with Toneriders.

But like with any electric guitar, there are steps you take to reduce noise: cavity and conductor shielding, string ground and lead dress, as well as environmental noise mitigation (clean AC power, cable routing, no motors running, etc.).
