Recently discovered these and find myself gassing for a parlor size after a rather unsatisfying Martin experience a few yrs ago.
Anybody own one, played one, like 'em, hate 'em?

What's a Waterloo?

I haven't had a chance to try one, but I believe anything made by Collings should be top notch.

Wow!

Molly Tuttle really knows how to get some big sounds out of that parlor.

Some Collings acoustics I've heard sounded so 'pure' they were almost sterile. But as a generalization for all of their models that's unfair, much like saying all Taylor models are too bright.

I've been tempted to pull the trigger on a Waterloo, but other needs (i.e. wants) seem to get in the way. For example, a year ago I purchased a Heritage 535 instead of a Waterloo.

I've tried and tried (and tried again) to like them, but every single one I've played has been a dog. Including a freshly built one (that very day) at the factory. They remind me of the '60's cheapo guitars - thin sounding and weak. I feel the same about Martin's latest 17 series guitars.

I wouldn't mind them quite so much if they weren't so absurdly expensive for what they are. I mean they strike me as no better then a $3-400.00 made in China guitar, especially their sound.

Don't get me wrong, I own more than a dozen Martins and 3 or 4 Collings and am impressed with most of their guitars (Collings electrics are flat out amazing). But these "cheap" lines just do nothing at all for me.

Edited to add: In the video of Molly Tuttle playing one she has the low E string tuned to D. That's about the only way you'll ever get any low end out of one at all. They are incredibly thin at standard tuning, which you can hear in that video at times. Molly is a fantastic player though, I always enjoy hearing her play.
