FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Telecasters / Replacement relic neck for Tele

I have a newer Mexican Telecaster and I'd like to replace the neck with a reliced one. Any thoughts on a good maple neck 21-fret replacement to give it more of a vintage feel?

Vintage feel or a vintage look.

Relic does not look vintage, it looks contrived. Just my opinion.

Why not just "relic" the neck you have?

What don't you like about it?

There are some pretty reasonably priced Allparts necks and I have heard more than one person say that they do vintage very well. The relicing however is questionable.

I would ask for an actual measurement of things before buying though.

Warmoth, AllParts or Musikraft and get them to send it to MJT for a relic finish. Or see if you can find a used Roadworn which are great tele necks.

I've yet to see a relic neck by anyone that didn't look somewhat fake. Even the Fender custom shop guitars have un-natural funky looking necks to me. We like what we like however.

I'd buy something with a vintage amber tint finished in lacquer. It will wear naturally it time in all the right spots and a lot faster than a neck finished in polly.

Fender has a vintage tint replacement Tele neck they sell on their website for $249. Ebay sellers have it for $199. I've used two so far for customer builds and bought on for myself.

I like to relic my guitars myself. It's easy. All I do is play them.
