Tone is in the lingers

A rhetorical question here for amusement. If you were limited to only one brand of pedals, who would it be? Or, would you even be able to do it?

For me, it would be Wampler or Keeley. I imagine either company could easily cover my needs for gain, delay, compression, etc. The only outlier might be a tuner.

I would've added Fulltone except they do not have a delay offering.

Boss would be a fallback. I could get by with Boss but they wouldn't be my first preference.

What say you?

Why do I keep fixing things that work?
Feb 7th, 2018 02:27 PM   Edit   Profile

Because of the necessity of different effects, the category of effects and the user needs, it does take more than one company to fulfill, at least for myself, the use of at least 3 manufacturers. So, to pick one company wouldn't work for most.
MXR, BOSS, ... I have so many effects that I use and can't narrow it down to a single company, or their offerings.

I've got Fulltone, Catalinbread, Bogner, MI Audio on my board at the moment and MXR, EHX, and others in reserve, but.......

I recently bought a Mooer "Orange Ninety" phaser and "Elec Lady" Flanger. The phaser is a very authentic sounding MXR 90 clone and the Flanger is an Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress clone, and sounds astonishingly like my original '70's Electric Mistress. Both were extremely inexpensive. Mooer make a huge range of pedals, and if the rest of them are half as good, I would have no problem gigging with them exclusively. I'd miss my Bogner blue most though.

If everything were to disappear off my pedal board except the brand I have the most of, I would be left with Maxon.

It's possible that I just don't know enough ... never much mention of Maxon on the FDP. ;)

The pt999 phase tone and od808 are generally very well regarded. :-)

Ask me how I know!?

I couldn't give up my ME-70, so I'd have to go with Boss. After that, probably TC but Electro Harmonix has been coming out with some great stuff also. Ok, can I change my mind after I make it up?

I've really only played these last many years with a Fulltone Full-Drive 2. That's all I've felt I needed. So that makes it pretty easy. My wah...which mostly remains in the box...is also a Fulltone. Just not an EFX person, I guess.

Hah! I was thinking similarly, but I was going say

However, there would a *huge* (probably insurmountable) learning curve on my part to DIY what I've got on the board presently.

If I had to pick, I could probably be happy with MXR. Currently MXR occupies 3/11 of my board space :^)

edit to add:
MXR pedals are Il Torino OD, Analog Chorus and Carbon Copy delay.

I agree with StratCowboy on the Fulltone. Great pedal for anybody that believes in the less is more.

Not possible, even if consider Roland/Boss to be one company (which they are).

The sticking point would be my custom sonic destroyer fuzzes.

Since most of the audience doesn't care a whit if my fuzz or tuner is "True Bypass" - Boss.

Most of my pedals are BOSS. That's what I'd pick.
