Can't blame him.

And... I would respectfully disagree with his statement that his voice is still strong. Based on recent performances I've seen, his voice has given in to OMD. He's now just speaking many of the words rather than singing them.

But what a fantastic career he's had. His music will go on forever.

Enjoy your retirement, Paul!

I went to a Simon and Garfunkle Reunion Concert in Berkeley Calif years ago.

He needed to retire then,.. they both did.

And he thinks his voice is still good.. Not by my standards.

"He needed to retire than...they both did."

I include myself when I say that, for some of us, it's hard to admit that our day has passed and it's time we were off to the dog track.

Or, as Steppenwolf put it:

"You're out of touch and you try too much.

Yesterday's glory won't help us today.
You want to retire?
Get out of the way."

I retired years ago (when Chrysler ruined our company) I knew "it" was over and I was over "it".

So, rather than be the same old hack.. I reinvented myself.

Would you care to hear me sing..
Didn't think so, neither do my kids.

I enjoyed S&G in the very early days when it was fresh. It's been stale for a long time.

Simon says "...a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating, and something of a relief."

I retired last October and had the same exact feelings.

What is OMD? All Google returned was Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark, an 80s group.

I think what finally convinced him was his meeting with Julio down in the schoolyard, who reminded him ....

"In the naked light I saw
my sagging jowls
and dentured maw

In the halo of a street lamp
I saw my trousers and
Depends were damp

And the sign said the bathroom line
would continue through the night
my buns clamped tight.... etc etc

OMD = "Old Man Disease". I got the term from the surgeon who is about to perform surgery on my torn rotator cuff. He said the torn rotator was due to my having "OMD".

OK. OMD = TMB.

Too many birthdays. I learned about TMB from a friend last Sunday.
