Yeah, I did mine during the ban when it was easier to bob and crown the barrel than find a compliant muzzle device and perm mount it. Post 2004 I had ADCO thread it. It ended up about 18”.

No Springfield M1A here but I do have a 1903 Springfield has has been sporterized with a custom flamed maple stock. Chambered in 30.06 the thing is an awesome shooter however real tough on the right shoulder.

I've always wanted an '03... envious!
I was just reading there is a subclass of metallic silhouette shooting (steel chooks and such) for military iron. That might be worth checking out, but the M1A I'm looking at would probably need a second mil type stock to be eligible.
