NSR, better get one soon. I predict an all out ban on semi-auto rifles in your area sometime soon.

However with what I read about bump stocks in your area, the State might confiscate all semi's without any compensation.

CO2 ... is there anything it can't do?

HD, I know the saga of SA that has the hardcore guys bent out of shape. I read what I could find on it and concluded that it wasn't enough to make me want to boycott the company.

K4, I know you are just busting my aggies on the semi autos, but the sad fact is I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

Regarding the bump stocks, I started a thread a few weeks ago and it got locked -- so I guess I can't talk about it.

I will say this, the effort has been a great success. The ban went into effect four days ago -- so far a total of four have been surrendered.

My son moved to New Hampshire last year and bought his first handgun. To celebrate, I bought him a big safe. He said -- Thanks Dad, but I'm never going to buy enough guns to fill this thing up.

I said -- Maybe, but I need a place to bring all mine when the effing commies finally take over in Mass.

I need to research why there’s so much bad blood regarding SA. Here in IL they caught some bad publicity last year over a carveout they got in some proposed legislation, but I think it’s deeper and older than that.

If I were looking for a hard core competitive High Power rifle I’d probably look elsewhere, but for the casual shooting I’m talking about I think a SA would work fine. Plus, I’m only two hours from the factory if it needs warranty work.

SA moved a lot of production (all?) out of IL and the country. I know the XD line is made in Croatia, not sure of other products.

I think the XDs were actually Croatian first under a different brand, and SA private labeled them. And they wouldn’t be the first to offshore production.

I usually don’t give most of the bitching and moaning you hear on the shooting forums much weight, some of those people would complain if you hung them with a new rope.

If you want maximum accuracy and bang for the buck in a semi, get an AR10.

If you want a semi-M14, the Springfield works just fine out of the box most of the time - I only had occasional issues with them out of the few dozen we sold.

And yea, the XDs were always Croatian.

And some of the Springfield guns are built with Imbel receivers or parts - the former FN contractor in Brazil.

Imbel is my #1 choice for a lot of FN-pattern stuff or traditional stuff at import pricing!

I have one and love it. Mine is the Standard with a walnut stock and it has no upgrades except for a several coats of tung oil on the wood.

I've only fired a few hundred rounds through it, and the farthest target available at my local range is only 100 Meters. There have been no issues but it hasn't really been tested.

It's a beautiful wood and steel weapon. I thought it would satisfy my craving for a Garand, but I need one of those, too.

Rob, I agree - if I was looking for maximum accuracy in a semiauto without spending $$$, I’d start building an AR10. That would actually be the logical choice for me since I’m already so invested in the AR system. But, this isn’t necessarily a logical kinda purchase I’m considering here. ;-)

I currently have a decent precision 7.62 (a Ruger RPR) and a MBR (an Imbel gear receiver-based FAL I built years ago.) This is to scratch an itch for a strictly iron sighted rifle for banging the gongs that has more legs than the FAL. It’ll only be put on paper at 100, everything further will be on steel. If it’s 2 MOA I’d be good, 1.5 or less ecstatic.

WireDog, I’d likely be looking for a second traditional wood stock if I buy one of these. It may not get shot much with it due to my wrist issues, but... What kind of accuracy are you seeing?

If the FAL won't do 2MOA, have it tuned, and replace the barrel if necessary.

Built dozens and it's certainly not difficult to achieve with the platform!

It’ll do slightly over MOA, but it’s not a satisfying rifle to use at distance. I built it as a carbine.

HD, I mainly was learning my way around adjusting my Battlesight Zero on a 25 M Zero paper target, followed by familiarizing with adjusting the elevation knob to hit plate-sized silhouettes at 100M. I wasn't really at the fine-tune level but I could nail plate-sized targets at 100M (the farthest distance at my range) all day, seated using a rest.

I cracked up my bike about that time, had a couple of surgeries, and that rifle has been in the safe ever since. This thread is rekindling my interest. Gotta find a range with more distant targets.

Ah, makes sense then.

I kept all my FALs regulation-length.

My carbines..are papered.

Just a couple of the HK51s (one with Gemtech HVT) and well, an Uzi.

Yeah, I did mine during the ban when it was easier to bob and crown the barrel than find a compliant muzzle device and perm mount it. Post 2004 I had ADCO thread it. It ended up about 18”.

No Springfield M1A here but I do have a 1903 Springfield has has been sporterized with a custom flamed maple stock. Chambered in 30.06 the thing is an awesome shooter however real tough on the right shoulder.

I've always wanted an '03... envious!

I was just reading there is a subclass of metallic silhouette shooting (steel chooks and such) for military iron. That might be worth checking out, but the M1A I'm looking at would probably need a second mil type stock to be eligible.
