"All words is lies"

I'm trying to recall a quote from "Untitled" by the Byrds. Was it from a different Byrds album? Am I making it up? I recall "All words is lies Josey". Is that correct? See my tagline.

"So this album is untitled, not because there ain't nothin' to say, Jack, but because we still fervently believe in Gully [sic] Jimson's outrageous advice straight from the horse's mouth,

'Paint pictures, Nosey; all talk is lies.'"

The reference is to "The Horses's Mouth", a novel by Joyce Cary from 1944 about an artist named Gulley Jimson.

Pretyy darn close - I've read the book (decades ago) and have the album, and didn't remember that at all.

Interesting that the hit single from that album was about a horse.

That LP was in my heavy rotation for about a year or so. Only Byrds album I've owned.

I've been binge-listening big-time to early Byrds stuff recently, by coincidence.

Hah- listened to their Greatest hits on a long car ride this morning!

Clarence White's B-Bender tele was soo cool on 'Jesus is just alright' Gorgeous, muddy tone, solo on this cut, just bursts of toe-curling fury inserted between the verses.

I really enjoy listening to Marty play it these days. He appreciates how special it is and it could not be in better hands.

Thanks Bopper. I'm not changing my tagline however. I asked because a friend of mine made a bracelet for me and wanted to know if I wanted anything inscribed. It was my tagline, a misquote but I don't regret it. I actually like my tagline better. I am a Byrds fan, having seen them once, Roger McGuinn twice, and Hillman once.
