My understanding is that a kid going into the trades will fulfill the requirements of this proposal.

"All I know is that New Mexico schools have high standards. Lots of smart folks out in New Mexico."

Was this being sarcastic?

From the OP's link

"New Mexico has struggled in past years with diminishing college enrollment. On top of reporting the lowest high school graduation rate in the nation in 2015, the state's college enrollment fell about 14 percent"

Maybe my first impression was wrong. From the above it looks like they are trying to get more paying students into New Mexico Colleges.

I want to say it another way but that would get my post bounced.

Alternative proposal:

In order to get that diploma, each student must present a signed/notarized affidavit from the parents, guaranteeing they will continue to support the graduate at home for the next five years in a suitable basement environment, with access to Hot Pockets and Wi-Fi for online video gaming.

"Was this being sarcastic?"

No, but I was just going on information that is probably not current. I can see how NM might be struggling these days.

5th grader in NM: Mom, Dad, I got my first "C" ever this semester."
Mom and Dad: "Congrats Son, we are so proud of you."
