Hopefully, the package contained a box of doggie poop bags or something of similar value.

I was going to say, "or something whose value won't even begin to approach the bill for her emergency room care", but then, our taxes and/or insurance premiums will likely wind up paying for that.

Identified. One package contained expensive medication. This happened not too far south of my brother's house.

I've seen some homes where they put out an exploding package that detonates a few seconds after being picked up.

Link explains the scenario

To break it down a little further, there's no possible way of showing the homeowner was negligent. The perp grabs the packages, and quickly makes a bee line toward the car, opting to go across the grass instead of down the driveway. the grass is clearly wet, as puddles are visible in the street.

As she goes, she drops a box, diverting her attention from walking as she tries to throw on the brakes to get it. But you cannot do that on wet grass while wearing sneakers. He right foot slides ahead and her left foot doesn't. When that happens, you land on top of the non-moving leg, which is exactly what happened.

To have any chance of success against the homeowner, you'd need to prove there was some sort of defective condition. Wet grass is not a defective condition and a home owner has no obligation to dry off their grass.

It would have been a far more interesting case if her foot instead hit that ridge between where the sidewalk ends and the grass begins. Then some lawyers would try to show that there was an elevation difference which caused her to trip.

All of this presupposes she can get past the part where she was caught on video stealing packages from the property, a fact that your average juror is not going to overlook.

So, if I were consulted by that loser, I would send her on her way and hope she doesn't steal anything nor fall on her way out the door.

I'm glad that you added this -- but how corrupt is our system that a case like this could even find its way to a jury?

It’s not that corrupt. I could get that case dismissed on a motion pre-trial.

classic supination-external-rotation bimalleolar ankle fx. fibula snaps and the rest of the ankle follows.

I always wonder how it can happen so easily when people come in saying "I was walking along and then my ankle blew up" but this is a perfect example.

It's baffling how entitled people feel to steal other people's shtuff. A while back an acquaintance of a friend posted a video of some goober scooting up on their porch and running off with a box. Based on the clothes and the pickup truck he drove, this wasn't someone in need. The delighted look on his face was like someone who just reeled in a 15 lb large mouth bass. So clear was the video that he was identified and turned himself in to the police.

In the box? Women's hair conditioner.

Also this patient probably got admitted to hospital for surgery, resulting in a ~$35,000 bill.

She is extremely likely to be "self-pay" thus anyone who buys health-insurance or pays taxes (most of the FDP) will be paying for it.

In Cali their attorney will argue the homeowners failed to anticipate rain in Seattle and didn't post those caution wet surface cones we see in super market.

We have no way of knowing that. Just because she’s a thief doesn’t mean she’s not employed/insured.
