It's wasted effort. The forces in the voice coil and cone are thousands of times more powerful than gravity.

If a speaker could be damaged by gravity, it would sustain damage just by lifting the amp and setting it down. Which it doesn't.

Thanks for your insight Peegoo. In all seriousness I had also heard of something along these lines before, such as the coil sagging and causing it to rub and get scratchy sounding. Yeah, well I filed it in the hum, I don't think so dept.

Peegoo feels *so* strongly about this...

he said it twice!

I remember hearing this myth many years ago and I'm quite sure I dismissed it then.

Turn your amp on its side. Become famous. Give an interview with a guitar mag where you say "Oh, yeah, man, turning the amp on its side really gives my tone a kind of prismatic lumination you can't get any other way."

Before you know it, wankers everywhere are turning their amps on their sides.

No, but I do change the direction they face weekly. That way the magnetic pull of the earth doesn't wear down one side of the speaker magnet faster than the other side.

Surely, the pull of the moon counteracts some of this?!? The difference between playing during a full moon and a new moon is staggering!!!

And don't forget to set your vibrato springs in a V shape.

It's the secret to the Jimmy Hendricks tone!

I think it depends. Mick can confirm but in Australia you have to rotate them counter-clockwise to offset the upside down rotation of the earth on it's axis which is why they call it 'down under'. Everywhere else it's clockwise.

A few hundred years from now our decendants will be reading these threads and blame our abuse of some pretty powerful forms of primitive recreational substances.

And Gene, When they ever do get around to proving to all of us that the Earth IS flat, your delusional theory that you and Mick are trying to collude on will fail and go down the toilet Double backwards Counter Clockwise!
