Thanks all.

She’s at the vet now. I’m waiting (in Shreveport) to hear what’s up. I hope she has some more good time left. It would suck to lose her and my sister so close to each other.

She has a torn ACL. They gave her some doggy dope. They wanted to do surgery but we think she’s too old for general anethesia.

So we have a bit of a reprieve - which is nice. :-)

CO2 ... is there anything it can't do?

Sweet!!!

Not for nuthin' Leftee, my dog suffered the same injury. The vet gave us some options including surgery, but we opted for something different.

We did everything we could to keep the stress off her joints. I built a ramp to the back yard so she could do her business without climbing stairs. We lifted her in and out of the trucks and on and off the furniture -- it took time but she recovered.

She's completely healed now -- she just turned 12.

We hope she can tolerate the medicine and heal. We have stairs so keeping her on one floor is not an option. Did I mention she’s willful?

I am so relieved to have this reprieve, at least for now. We all owe a dealth. I know. But not these two so close together.

My dog had the same tear and was too old for surgery so we got her a stifle brace. Keeps everything aligned and man o man what a difference. She loved that thing because she gained her mobility back.

She left us about 8 months later but had full mobility during the time left. Well worth every penny!

Google My Pets Brace there is also a place in Nebraska. They can send you a kit to make a mold then they make the brace from that.

Lady is doing *much* better. She's back to "Boxer" again.

Makes me wonder if it was a sprain, not a torn ACL.

Any ways...

Our dog Luna sufffered a partial tear in her ACL last summer. We also opted not to go the surgery route. (we did a lot of research and made our decision). She was on severely restricted activity for almost a year. Stayed on the first floor to sleep, helped up and down the stairs to go out and walked on the leash so she couldn't take off after squirrels.
A year later and she is getting around fine. She takes the stairs slowly but she can do them and has free mobility again. Vet said her mobility is good.

Good luck and take it slowly.

That's why I think she had a sprain. She's already moving past this.

Honestly, we couldn't figure out where/when she tore her ACL.

"Honestly, we couldn't figure out where/when she tore her ACL."

I couldn't either. We went through our daily routine of walks and she showed no signs of injury or discomfort. Just before bedtime I went to let her outside and she couldn't get up from her bed.

As I said, we were careful to limit the stress to her injury but she came back. We don't have her chase tennis balls like we used to, but otherwise she is as goofy as ever.
