FDP Forum / Miscellaneous and Non-Fender Topics / GEM brand name (not guitar model) cases?

We recently obtained a Washburn D-100M/TWR (a very decent all laminate mahogany topped dread, I'll post more about the guitar later in the acoustic sub-forum) that came with a GEM brand name case.
The GEM case is a sturdy and well-padded 'soft' case. I don't know the proper name, it's like a cross between a well-made gig bag and a hard case, say an above average hard case but with nylon covering and zippers. It's thicker and heavier than the similar RoadRunner cases I've handled.
I'm stumped. I can't find any info on GEM cases searching with Bing and Google. Maybe they're out of business? Were made for the European market? Were a store, now OOB, brand?
Any info you can provide the GEM brand would be greatly appreciated.

Tony, these are known as "lite cases" and "hard bags," because they're usually covered with ballistic Nylon fabric with zip and snap closures (like luggage) and have hard foam backing to give the case shape. They're great if you want better protection than a thin gig bag but don't want the weight of a true hard case.
I think they're out of production; the General Music (GEM) Co. used to make keyboards and lite cases for their keyboards too. Wouldn't surprise me if they also offered guitar cases because many keyboards back then were about the size of a guitar or bass case.

Peegoo, I really appreciate the info & link.
The GEM case we have fits your description. It weighs nearly or as much as a better-than-average HSC, probably because of the thick & dense foam. The only lite cases/hard bags I've seen that come close to it are the TRIC cases, which are lighter in weight but certainly not lighter in protection.
Again, thanks.

I should mention the quality of the GEM case makes me feel better about paying $118.00, on-line auction, for the guitar.

That's not bad at all. A case like that goes for $100 easy.
