FDP Forum / Amp Mods, Repairs, and Projects / DRRI volume suddenly very quiet?

Hi all, I'm in need of some troubleshooting help for my DRRI.

I gigged with it about a month ago, and just now fired it up at home for the first time since and found that the volume is VERY quiet - no matter which input or channel I plug into. It's like it's stuck on 1.

When I crank up the volume it doesn't get any louder, only more gritty.

Any ideas? A tube gone bad? Thanks!

Try these two things (in order).

Pull the speaker plug and stick it back in. Check to see the spade connectors on the speaker's frame are firmly in contact with the speaker wire. See if that fixed the issue.

If not...

Gently remove each tube one at a time and stick it back in to re-seat the pins in the sockets.

See if that fixed it. If it did, you need to have the sockets cleaned and re-tensioned.

If not, you may have a bad tube or a bad solder connection in the chassis. If you're not versed on chassis work, don't attempt it because there may be lethal voltages in there--even when it's unplugged from the wall.

^^^ This advice assumes you've already ruled out the guitar and the guitar cable as possible causes for the problem.

Thanks Peegoo, I'll give that a try and report back. Indeed I've plugged into my practice amp to confirm cable and guitar aren't the problem.

Problem solved! The speaker jack was plugged into the external, not internal, jack. Gah. I'd left it after the gig at a friends place - can only assume his kids were messing with it.

Thanks Peegoo!
