FDP Forum / Performer's Corner / Shameless plug for my band - "The Mighty Electric St Jude Band"

Some of you know I've worked for St Jude Children's Research Hospital for the last 18 years.

15 years ago, we put a band together comprised of employee's for a one off event.

So much for that, over the years we've kept it together, performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, been thru numerous band members and finally have gotten to be a premier act in the Memphis area.

I thought I might share a video compilation that was taken from a show we did at Memphis Cook Convention Center.

Enjoy !

I DID! (Enjoy) I spent about 30 minutes watching various YouTube videos and loved every minute of it! I have to get around but I have marked it for more follow up. Great guitar solo on Can't Stand The Rain! Great version of that song. It is nice to see a big band work some great tunes...

Well done!

Very nice, Stratmanx. I say it's time to quit the day job, load up the van, and head out on the road to lay some chops on the masses!

I really appreciate the props folks.

"I Can't Stand the Rain" is an interesting story.

How it got to be Mark's "Tour De Force" is really usual.

When we first picked it up, we kinda did it by the book.

One evening in practice I got a burr under my butt and just started going for it.

The band looked at me with that WTF look. I didn't know if I was being crucified or approved.

They dug it, and it took on a totally different feel.

So it got to the point that on some nights when I'm really feeling it, the guitar goes behind my head, doing all the pull offs, bouncing it on the floor, all the showman tricks I've picked up over the years.

I never engineered it to be that way, it just evolved.

I understand that Ann Peebles is still alive and living in Memphis.

I've got a goal to meet with her in the next year, play her our version and hope she approves !

Your band is excellent and I always enjoy the videos you post. The guitar in I Can't Stand The Rain works well. With two female singers, it was surprising to see a male vocal on that song. Not a bad thing, just unexpected.
