"I wanna see the guts."

You *always* wanna see the guts!!

And it *always* rattles my insecurities :^)

Even while I was soldering, I was getting pangs of anxiety thinking about WWPD.

Curiously, the same project has been in the back burner for around a year. Now that I have seen your results, it spiked me to go back and finish the project. Only differences are using a half-Tele bridge instead of a trem, 3 pickup (Tele neck, Strat middle and Tele bridge) configuration with a push-pull knob to get Bridge and Neck combo and regular 5-way switch.

"Only differences are using a half-Tele bridge instead of a trem..."

Yeah, I kept existing bridge mostly out of laziness.
It is decked and blocked however.
I also wanted to hear how the pickups were going to sound before any reconstructive surgery. Which sound great btw.

It sounds twangy and gritty enough as is, so I don't reckon I'll do any more to it.

After playing it for a few days, I have *one* little tweak I need to make...

The 3-way switch is currently installed so the switch travel is parallel to the neck. (tele-like)

I just need to rotate the whole thing so it's travelling in the same angle as the control knobs. (strat-like)

FTR, I went with the Gibson-style switch just to add to the unique vibe of the thing.
However the factory standard route for the lever switch didn't allow much room for alternative placement. (and I didn't want to do any additional routing)

Yeah... I know... first world problems, ay?

click click... this is bravo one, over.. go ahead bravo 1....still no guts in which to speak of, over.... copy that bravo one....confirm this bird aint flyin, over. confirmed, bravo 1 out.

Mick, yer an awesome feller, only making myself giggle. That guitar only motivates me to copy that on my hardtail. It is either surf green or one of the blue colors, maybe daphne. Never been sure and colors seem much different on screen.

I will take a pic later and share it. Honestly forgot all about that strat.

Mick, were there any problems with getting the bridge pup to fit? Does yours have s/s/s or h/s/h routing?

"so it's travelling in the same angle as the control knobs"

Mick - that reminds me: what's the switch orientation on the new Duo-Sonic you got a while ago?

I just got a D-S HS, and the switch is pretty much how you want it on this one ala Strat). I recall that they were at a right angle to the neck (ala LPs) on the 90s RIs, and I'm wondering if mine is out of whack.

"Mick, were there any problems with getting the bridge pup to fit? Does yours have s/s/s or h/s/h routing?"

The factory routing is HB (neck)+ Swimming Pool (middle, bridge). I'll see if I can find a pic of the routing in my library.

Due to the differences in bridge design & body routing, the Hybrid bridge pickup sits slightly further forward toward the neck than a tele.
Because of the bridge differences, the most accurate way to measure it is back from the nut.

From nut to centre of E6 pole piece:
Tele = 615 mm (24-3/16")
Strato Tele = 605 mm (23-13/16")

How much 10mm effects the tone, I'll leave up to the lab-coated boffins! But my ears will tell you it sounds GREAT!

"...what's the switch orientation on the new Duo-Sonic you got a while ago?"

Bopper, from memory (for what that's worth :^) I think the switch was indeed "up & down".
I *do* recall that one of the first things I did to it was rotate the switch orientation. I went parallel to neck with that one because of its location on the "horn".

Easy to do (and can be done without completely removing the pickguard and strings).

Just loosen the retainer nut; remove pickguard screws; lift up the guard; rotate switch to where you want it & tighten the retainer nut whilst holding the switch from the underside; replace & tighten all the p/g screws - done!

Note: If you have a guitar multi wrench, great. If not, you can use a good pair of pliers, sideways, if that makes sense. I prefer needle nose for this, but I have a multi wrench now (thanks Peegoo!) Just be careful not to slip and bugger up the splines on the retainer nut.

Let me know if I've not addressed your question properly.
