A challenge for this week is how to make Dylan's Hard Rains Gonna Fall into something more up tempo.

(but also different to the Bryan Ferry version)

Thinking of shortening the verses by dropping two or three of the lines in the I walked, I Heard, I saw etc sections.

Keeping the first two lines the ones about where/what etc have you done my blue eyed son.

Any suggestions for spicing up the G to A chords section in each line in the middle of each verse ?

Try doing it in 4/4 time instead of 3/4, that'll liven it up.

That is a great idea.

A chord that fits nicely between the G and A in the verse is a Cadd9 at the top of the 2nd measure:

G//Cadd9//A//D/////

It adds a sort of dreamy quality to the melody and helps upset the happy major-chord feel going on there.

I always liked "All Along The Watchtower" but it became a favorite when folks like Ritchie Havens moved it up temp. Bob Dylan even kicked it up a few notches in his live version. Make folks tap their toes and dance.

Anytime I need inspiration for something like this, Itunes is always handy since you can hear 30 seconds to a minute of someone else's version.

Somebody, somewhere has already done what you were thinking! And recorded it!
