Boy, this went down hill!

I wish I was an electric player in high school or had the notion that all the '50s and '60s Strats and Teles my classmates were selling for $200-300 to buy Les Pauls would be worth something some day.

And then there was the hot french horn player in band with me. I never knew she was smitten until it was too late.

Still have my old Thomas/Cry Baby, patent pending Wah, but I should've hung onto that Mosrite Fuzztone a bought in 1968 and sold for $20 a couple years later. They go for "a bit" more than that now.

That a friend in high school in the late '70s was right: Being willing to play bass in a C&W cover band would get you many more gigs than playing guitar in R&R cover band.

That all those beat-up Fender USA Telecasters in pawn shops would one day bring serious money.

Yup...could fill a small 8 & 1/2 by 11 notebook!!

Main one:
Don't buy an MIJ Fender Strat with a System I tremolo! Spent lots of time researching and trying to find parts just to make it work! Sold it and moved on to a Strat with a Floyd Rose!
On the plus side, if anyone has a question here about them, I know of what I speak!

Another one: spending $200 to fix up a $200 guitar doesn't come close to saving up to get a $600 "nice" guitar.

I wish I had kept the:
'64 Strat
'55 Tele
'55 LP Jr.
'55 LP Special
'57 Precision bass
'67 ES-335
'66 Tele (first good guitar)
'47 Martin 00-17
'61 Concert (2 of them actually)
Many blackface Fender amps.

I didn't need the money at the time but I just wish I still had them now.

Bb, your reject list would be nirvana for many of us--but I'm glad that your profile suggests that you are not wanting for good gear. Many other folk may be loving your discards now, those items that survive. It's good to not be too wedded to stuff, which we only get to use for awhile.

I wish I had not sold that 67 Mustang GTA with factory front discs in 1976 for $200. It needed a lot of work but still...

That the Tone and Volume controls on the guitar are actually quite useful.

^This^

Actually, in the lefty world, the tone controls were always useless for me until the internet age. That’s because I didn’t know guitar makers were wiring righty audio taper tone pots lefty and effectively making them useless. Guitar forums to my rescue!

All my electrics are wired righty. Well, alll bit one. My semi hollow Ibanez is still lefty. I’ve been too lazy to get into it and fix it.

About 20 years ago we started buying from a small independent guitar store near us. At that time they had three, possibly four ??, NOS Guild USA electric guitars. Using a time machine I would try to make a bundle deal on all three.

I wish I knew that the BFDR I bought for $50 about 1974 would someday be worth more than the $50 I sold it for a few years later. Also, that the red Rick 4001 I bought new for about $450 in 1974 would be worth more than the $225 I sold it for about 1981.
Excuse me while I go bang my head against the wall a few times remembering these and other brilliant moves I made back then.

How to dial in a usable tone. The countless hours I sat in front of my amp blindly trying to find "the sound" with equipment ill suited to the task and nobody to help guide me. I'll never get those infinite hours back.

Also, not to marry my first wife. Crazy will make you crazy.
