I thought it was because I had too many apps on my phone or something, that made it get slower and slower. But Apple confesses, I'm not sure why the battery slows it down but that's what they say.

Adding: I guess the title should say" Apple Confesses"

so you keep buying into the need to get the latest and greatest version even if you have gear that works fine.

Its a plan to keep planned obsolescence going and thriving and Apple Stock growing in value

pretty sneaky and evil

Plus a battery that takes seconds to change.

Well I have a 6s and Im going to replace the battery rather than upgrade. My 6s is 2 years old and replaced a 4 ! The 4 had not been getting updates for almost a year and it finally just died. Slow yes , but usable. I am planning on keeping the 6s as long as I can. Of course they want you to get the latest and greatest, what manufacturer doesn't? To be honest if I had to pay full price for the battery , it would still be worth it.

I worked for a company that partnered with Apple on some products for over 10 years. My take away from that experience....

Apple is the real evil empire
and
I refuse to buy or use any of their products

This is a case where a company got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Don't think for a moment that the other don't use similar tactics.

Remember when all we had were land lines and you kept your phone for ever without needing an upgrade or just upgrading from a dial to buttons?

Remember when your phone bill was less than 20 bucks?

I remember when HD came out and Direct Tv wanted to sell you a HD receiver for like 600 bucks. Its a pretty common practice.

I guess a slow iPhone is a typical 1st world problem, its not going to affect me much. I'm not happy with apples tactics but I just paid my 6 off and am going to hang on to it as long as possible

A really good indoor HDTV antenna is only $30. The TV signals it captures are free, with no subscription necessary. Remember rabbit ears? Same concept.

Click the Amazon link above and search on the following string:

Wsky 60+ Miles 1080P Transparent Digital HDTV Antenna

Stick it to a window and plug it in, and you'll be amazed. An exterior HD antenna on a mast reaches out even farther.

Peegoo it was tried , but the antenna is limited by topography. It doesn’t work everywhere. I was only able to get 1 channel clearly , but it dropped out constantly. I have cable now and am more than happy.

Ah...yeah, if you're rural, the HD antenna is not optimal.

Even if you replace the battery Apple is still slowing the phone.

An outdoor antenna will work if you are some distance from the transmitter. But there is nothing but junk OTA and endless drug company and insurance commercials.

"For Apple CEO Tim Cook, fiscal year 2017 brought good tidings in the form of a hefty 47 percent pay increase and use of a private aircraft.

Apple’s CEO since 2011 saw his salary rise to about $12.8 million in fiscal year 2017, which ended in September, from about $8.7 million in the prior fiscal year, according to a SEC filing from Apple on Wednesday.

Cook’s real wealth, however, comes from his stock options. He owns 560,000 shares awarded to him in 2011 that vested in fiscal 2017, valued at $89.2 million.

Apple’s CEO also has about 2.9 million more unvested shares, worth more than $450 million, according to the SEC filing"

I disagree with that statement. I have been OTA since the middle of 2015 using an indoor HD antenna. There's plenty to see including 8! different PBS channels. I do have a Roku box and a chromecast to supplement it (FIOS) but still get 30+ channels for free.

Click on the link below to see what's playing OTA in Tampa right now.

I need to replace the antenna on our mast at FDP HQ but since digital, we have a number of little stations that broadcast old movies and shows as well as 4 PBS stations. Now, I'm not a big fan of most of PBS' programming, but some of the drama/mystery shows they run and nature shows (we like Outdoor Idaho here) are great.

But mostly, I use a Roku to stream Netflix, Amazon, Yahoo, and a few select free stations (like the Roku channel). I'm this close to adding Hulu.
