One hundred miles North of Montreal here... 1200 feet elevation.
We are at -30° C or -19° F. Wind chill making it much colder.

Montreal itself is at -26° C or -15°F at an elevation of 20 feet.

It is cold but we annually see -40° which is the same in both C and F scales. On occasion, we get to -50°C which is -60°F ... and we are not even close to our friend Roly.

Nevertheless, it is cold and the fireplace is doing full time duty.

Wishing one and all a happy cold snap. Many thanks to Siberia for this Polar Vortex event.

Noteworthy... The Old Farmer’s Almanac is right on for its prediction and they say that there will be two more such events this Winter.

Up here in the High Rockies it is warm. Too warm. Headed towards 48 degrees today.

We could use some of that snow.

It's all gravy from here on...

Plenty cold the last couple of days in Wichita. Down to single digits for lows and highs at or below 20F. Warming up into the upper 30's today and tomorrow, then back down in the basement for 0-5F lows for a couple days.

Not such a big deal. A couple weeks of cold like this will reduce some of the insect population next spring. I'm fine with a couple months of winter.

Was ZERO degrees driving in to work this morning...the air felt like -11 with the breeze...according to local meteorologists...to be truthful, I really don't understand why I live so far north...

that being said, I love hockey....

Here in wussie land, AKA Dopeville ... borderline snowflake territory..
Largely gender impaired here... by observation of the chosen uniform.

24F nights 48f days.

I wish it was colder as they, the chosen few, cannot tolerate too many days of below freezing or above 100F.

Wishing for a prolonged freeze and a blistering summer.

Whiny Texan reporting in: it was annoyingly cold in Big D this past weekend. Molly and Stella the lab pups loved it, but humans were required to wear coats and hats to avoid hypothermia.....temperatures usually in the 30s.

East Tennessee

Dec 28th, 2017 09:05 PM   Edit   Profile

Not too cold in east TN, nothing I would usually complain about, but my car's been in the shop for the past 2 months so I've been riding a motorcycle as primary transportation..

None of my cars have had A/C or heat and it's never bothered me, but riding back and forth to work in freezing temps is pretty cold. Fun for the first 5 miles of curvy two-lane, then hit the highway for 15 minutes right as my hands are starting to feel chilled..

I enjoy the cold weather though, all things considered.

Here's a cut and paste from the Government of Canada weather service for Sunday.
"Sun, 31 Dec Sunny. Increasing cloudiness in the afternoon. Wind south 30 km/h. High minus 30. Extreme wind chill minus 50. Frostbite in minutes."

Happy New Year.

It's been unseasonably cold here in central VA. The lake behind us had a thin layer of ice over the parts that don't get any wind.

Very dry too. It's hard to keep water in the humidifier.

Relatively, it's been a cold winter here too. Next week we'll be getting down into the 20's at night and a few days not busting out of the 40's. A couple years ago our holiday guests were swimming at the community pool. This is more like early February.

But still...

CO2 ... is there anything it can't do?
Jan 3rd, 2018 10:24 AM   Edit   Profile

After nearly two weeks of temps in the single digits and low teens, tomorrow we're getting treated to a Nor'easter -- or more accurately, a winter cyclone.

10-15 inches of global warming and 70mph wind gusts = blizzard conditions. The water along the beach is frozen solid and the combination of the astronomically high tide occurring at the height of the storm, the high winds and the storm surge, will send icebergs crashing into and over the seawalls.

All this immediately followed by another deep freeze -- sub zero temps expected through the weekend.

I figure I have about a 10% chance of having electricity tomorrow.

Good times.
