FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Telecasters / 3 barrell vs 6

Dec 26th, 2017 08:05 AM   Edit   Profile

I just bought a 2011 telecaster with the 6 individually string saddles. Is this better or it doesn't matter vs the 3 barrels which I am use to and like because of the vintage look.and can it easily be swapped out....just curious?

I swapped the entire bridge on one of mine for the 3 brass barrel types and really can't say that it was an improvement.

About as ordinary as you can get.

I like the vintage look personally. 6 saddles might intonate more accurately but I have had no problem with 3 saddles.

You should be fine with 6

After 30 years, I should play better.

I strongly prefer six.

I also have strong preferences for cast rather than bent saddles. (I mean deal-breakingly strong.)

I have installed a Wilkinson Compensated 3 Saddle Bridge on a MIM Tele (came stock with 6 saddle). It was a drop-in refit. I'm sure there are other brands as good or "better".

There was a minute sliver of the bridge pickup route that was visible from the playing position but not from front on. It wasn't enough for me to worry about. (strings/saddles were perfectly aligned)

I was mostly going for aesthetics over tone or intonation on that project.
