I’ve been in an accident where a carvdrove in reverse in a parking lot into my car. He claimed I hit him. A dash cam would have disproved it and I would have collected $300 from his insurance. Instead, I had to sue in small claims court or pay myself.

I cut my losses and paid myself.

I'd get one, but then I couldn't claim a deer ran in front of me when I slam on the brakes for a tailgater.

"The Russians love these things..."

For good reason: insurance fraud is currently at epidemic proportions in the former Soviet Onion.

The dash cam helps provide evidence when filing a police report and insurance claim.

I bought the model in the link below about 18 months ago. Works fine, acted up once and just hooked it up to the computer and reloaded software.
I live in the DC area and want to be able to prove the idiot I hit swerved in front of me because they’re updating their Facebook. I don’t have a rear facing camera...yet.
The only con, the mirror isn’t prismatic. It’s got a slight smoked glass type of reflection...so that does make high beams and trucks lights behind you tolerable. Besides, if you flipped the mirror’s toggle like you would on a normal mirror you’d change the camera’s view. The cord is long enough to run up, under or behind any interior modeling.

I picked up one a couple of months ago. I tend to forget it's there, but it may come in very handy at some point. Compact design that tucks in behind my rear view mirror. I was able to pull power for it from a feed up behind my map lights that was intended for a day-night mirror, so it ended up being a very clean install, without wires running all over the place.

The town I live in has about 40,000 residents....I'm amazed at how often I hear accidents either from my home, or see the aftermath while driving around....

the other day I had one happen right in front of me..speed limit was 30 and a 4 dr. pickup with dually's was turning left onto a side street..apparently the woman coming from the other direction failed to stop and she went right under him on the passenger side between the front and rear wheels and flipped the truck over on its back...I'm like whoa!...it was then that i wished that I had the dashcam to view to make sure it actually happened..

CO2 ... is there anything it can't do?

Check your state's wiretapping laws first. Video is OK but some states prohibit secretly recording audio. This could be an issue in the case of a traffic stop -- unless the dashcam is in plain sight.

In PA, for example, it's against the law to attach anything to the windshield (suction cups), so check first.

Yeah -- don't do that.

Your local statutes are readily available online or in a library.
