"You don't know what you don't know"

I am just starting to get into recording and playing my bass through the computer. So what is a basic interface I can jump into without breaking the bank? Right now I just want to record or play bass lines through my computer.

You want the Apogee Jam. It plugs directly into any PC or iPad and cost won't break you.

The Apogee will work with PC?

It would be the first of their products to do so to my knowledge.

An alternative, the Focusrite Scarlett for 99 bucks. You'll need some software presumably.

The Focusrite Scarlett has a suite of software included

"Includes Pro Tools | First Focusrite Creative Pack and Ableton Live Lite
All the additional software and loops you need to start recording
Red 2 & 3 Plug-In Suite, Softube Time & Tone Bundle, and 2GB of Loopmasters Samples are included as a free download"

On the PC v Mac issue I may be mistaken. The website says it works with Windows but actually I've never used the PC for that purpose. I generally only use the MacBook Pro of recording with GB and Logic.

Let's get back to basics.

Mac, or PC?

Can't offer advice without that information.
