It's a Remington 1859 but definitely not one you can carry in a holster on your belt. See link.

That's no revolver. It's a crew served direct-fire mortar with a rotating magazine :o)

He did an excellent job on it. The 1858 is one of my all time favorite. I’ve been shooting them since the 70s.

That's cool. I guess a black powder weapon would be the way to go at that scale so you wouldn't ALSO have to fabricate and reload brass. Though maybe it could've been built around some sort of 30mm cannon brass or something. I would think that the chamber pressure generated by a more modern propellant would also be problematic for a guy without access (I'm assuming) to industrial tooling and metallurgy.

But since I know very little about all this, those comments could be completely off base.

I don’t know about the substitution of modern powder in a black powder fire arm, I’d guess the problem would be it’s volatility and load volume rather than equivilant load pressures. I know that modern centerfire conversion cylinders are available for the 1858. When I was reloading the .45 colt round, which originally the powder measure was the case (with blackpowder) something around 22 graines, if I recal correctly, the modern powder equivilant, with the powder I used was around 7 grains for the .45 colt.

Another major difference is blackpowder can have no space between the powdered and the seated lead. The powder must be compressed with the round, modern powder does not require being compressed. Head space in a blackpowder load can increase the gas pressure so fast the barrel will explode. You got to seat and compress the ball on the powder.

I would have been more impressed if he'd made a Colt Walker instead.

And I thought cleaning my replica 1861 36 caliber Colt Navy sucked.

I wonder what he's using for ignition? Caps for that piece are probably hard to find.
