Just saw a headline saying that they are being bought up by CVS.

If what CVS did to Long's Drugs when they bought that is any indication, well...

In other weird and possible related news...

Next year my BCBS plan forces me to switch my prescriptions to Walgreens. I can use CVS, etc, but I will not have insurance participation if I do.

CVS has actually been more reliable for me than Walgreens. Walgreens made a near fatal dispensing mistake almost 20 years ago, and their response to it was basically a corporate “my bad.”

My BCBS plan pulled that last year - Walgreens is now the only in-network provider. Walgreens has even taken over the very good mail order Rx provider we have to use. Not very happy about it.

I understand that once the buy out is done, people with Aetna insurance will report to mini-clinics at CVS for their mundane healthcare needs.

My PetSmart has a veterinary clinic in the store.
Pretty much the same thing I guess.

Don't know if CVS will require having kid patients on a leash, however.

I like the recent trend towards the mini clinics.

I do too. It's another level of urgent care that we had been missing, IMO.

Our plan is introducing virtual visits for a short list of symptoms. My provider’s system has the same.

We got access to virtual visits this year (2017) too. I haven't tried that yet. Honestly, I stayed healthy enough this year that I didn't have the opportunity. The couple things I went to the Dr. for require lab work any ways.

2 weeks ago I switched my Medicare Advantage coverage from UHC to Aetna for 2018. Hope that wasn't a big mistake. Here in Manhattan there is a CVS about every other block, so maybe it's a good thing?

Maybe they'll do a better job with health care. All I know is that they changed Long's Drugs from a great place to get anything from live bait to prescription medications into a wasteland filled with cheesy Chinese junk (not the boat): kind of a scaled-down Walmart. Every time I went in there after the takeover, I found less and less merchandise of any value whatsoever. I finally gave up and took my business elsewhere.

The bottom line is that nobody yet knows what effect this will have on the health care biz. It's never been done before, so there's no blueprint. Like many business deals, the possibilities for both good and bad are there. Will it be a blueprint for screwing us consumers, or will it shake up the other insurance companies enough to start giving us what we pay for?
