I know nothing about this pedal except that I think everyone (except me) has or has had one.

Are the brand new modern day DS-1's any "less good" than the "vintage" ones?

Dramatic changes in circuitry or op-amps over the years?

Got a chance to get a used one for 20 bucks...

Well, it's gone now. Didn't last long on gumtree at 20 bucks.

But still interested in answers to my questions above.
Also the differences between DS-1, 2, 3's if anyone can tell me.

Can get a newie (DS-1) for $60, or "vintage" 80's" ones for around $130. Is it worth the extra 70 bucks?

I'm kind of new to distortion, been mostly an overdrive guy until recently.

Thanks rfrakes331K.
Being the fickle nut that I am, I'm off the DS-1 thing now.

I'm onto Zendrive clones now :^)

Can't afford a real one :^(

I don't think you missed out on much, Mick. Some people like them, many don't! Kinda bright and fizzy sounding from what I remember (years ago) about mine.
I'd take an SD-1 any day especially at the same price (they used to be, anyway).

"I'd take an SD-1 any day..."

Yeah, I'm finding Overdrive is still my comfort zone over Distortion. It may be a subtle difference to some, but I think OD is a more "natural" sound to it.

I do have a MXR Super Badass Distortion that I'll keep just in case I ever "need" the sound. It is quite a warm sounding distortion.

I think I’ve had a SD-1. But not a DS-1.

I have a DS-1 I bought a year ago and it is a nice distortion pedal for heavy music. I also had one many years ago and honestly do not remember anything about it that sounded different.

I know Gary Moore used one, dont know if it was modded or not.

I had the Keeley DS-1 ultra mod and quite liked the sound. Like Mick, I think I`m more an OD sort of guy.

I don't own a distortion pedal per say but have two Boss OD-2 boxes. The color knob changed the pedal for a TS type OD to a very metal like distortion and everything in between. The tone knob is very effective. They are $90 street price in the state brand new.

I use these when I provide back line for shows and throw one in front of each am I provide. Works out well.

"I don't own a distortion pedal per say but have two Boss OD-2 boxes."

That's an interesting one Hammond. Could be the best of both worlds so to speak.

I've acquired a few other pedals the past couple of weeks, so it may be a while before I start looking again. (he said with a grin...)
