This past week I had to buy my 3rd wireless router in about 10 years. The first 2 were Cisco and they both failed they same exact way. The radio part starts getting weak, my wireless devices start pausing to buffer a lot, etc. Eventually the wireless part pretty much stops working. Meanwhile the Ethernet ports are still working fine for direct connect devices.

This time I got a different brand router (Belkin). It's working fine. Actually the Belkin was easier to set up than those 2 Cisco routers were. Well see how long this one lasts.

How long have you had this? I'm only spitting in the wind, but by chance is the security protocol not set up properly, and this possibly was how your PayPal password was compromised?

I have had this new router about a week. Hmmm

I have the security turned on with a passphrase, I'm not sure if I need to do anything else. It's set up the same as my previous routers (I think)

Yep...they do.

Just last week I had to go get a new router.
I had a Net Gear, about 6y/o.

Just played out dropping wifi here and there on occasion over the last few months..

no more of anything, including wired XB1(s).

Bought another NG with same specs, about $30. cheaper than last bought....LOL

I've had the stuff from the cable company die on me however I've actually never lost one of personal routers. Upgraded yes but my Lynksis units have been very good.

I recently changed to the Google Mesh System because I now have wireless cameras in place at Walnut Creek Studios aka casa de H101. These are pretty cool, I bought a 3 pack on Amazon (FDP link) for under $300. The unit of the three connected via Ethernet becomes the router and the other two becomes expanders of the network. You can cover a large home and yard with this setup. I have one in my studio, one in the garage and one in the master suite. The system is completely seamless. You can add additional units if needed.

I have one dedicated to my wireless mixer and haul it all over the place. So far so good. Set up of the new stuff is a breeze compared to years past.

I seem to get 2-3 years out of routers. Either they're lost during an electrical storm (unplugged of course) or as others said they just gradually drop off.

A bit of an annoyance I have to admit.
