Actually I stopped buying stuff a while back. I'm waiting for the market to "crash" so I can get some stuff cheap!

I just buy with the twice monthly payroll deduction, and only up to the point where they match 50%, so 4% plus the 2% "money on the table".

Doing some quick calculating here.

One of my brokerage (mutual fund) accounts that has had no new money added in the past year is up about 17% from a year ago.

I guess I'd take that year over year for a while and be a happy camper.

I should add: That's not just A mutual fund ... its a portfolio spread over probably 30 to 40 various funds in various sectors.

It's a managed account.

I buy the Vanguard Total Market index fund, tracks roughly the Wilshire 5000, exposure to the broad US equities market, extremely low costs, average return.

And just recently some of the analog bond fund that they have, exposure to the broad range of government and corporate bonds in the US.

A risky mix of 95% the former, 5% the latter. Plus some cash, mostly an emergency fund.

Even if it fell several thousand, just remember it was at 16,000 in November 2016. Diversify is still a key word. Interesting that we got through the usually dark days of October without getting a major downturn.

It was at 16,000 in ...

December of 1999 ...

September of 2007 ...

and

November of 2016

Hopefully we never see 16,000 again. ;)

The stock market is like that strange dog on the street your mom warned you about.

Seems friendly enough, as you approach with that biscuit in your hand ....but you just never know what might set him off; and then your furry friend suddenly becomes Cujo snapping at your heels.

Gotta be honest I'm feeling super bear-ish and having trouble making my monthly ETF equity retirement contribution.

Just have a feeling it's gonna fall apart but then I've felt like that for almost a year and it just keeps going up...

It's a game of musical chairs, just keep dancing while the music is playing, always knowing it will suddenly stop.
