Is anyone watching Godless on Netflix? It's a very gritty western starring Jeff Daniels and Michelle Dockery and a slew of others. Great acting all around and Jeff Daniels is the devil's incarnate. Great scenery and horsemanship. If you like westerns give it a watch.

I was hooked once I saw the previews. Watched the first episode the other night and plan to follow through.

Addendum:
Heard an interview with the writer/director today.
He says that towns like those depicted in "Godless" actually existed in New Mexico. These were mining towns where the male population was decimated in one afternoon in mining disasters.
On some occasions the women would pull up stakes and move on, while in others, they stuck around to try and "make a go of it."
I had no idea.

Just watched episode 1 - good stuff so far, keen to see more. Boy, I'm glad I did not live back then.

Getting a little weary of a number of Netflix offerings, especially the Nordic/Scandinavian ones. Often a four episode story-line streeeeeetched out to ten episodes, too many side-stories and sub-plots that lead the main narrative nowhere and are uninteresting in themselves.

Watched the whole series.
Fair on the main story line, good on the mini-stories/many sub story lines.

If they would have left out the profanity and the continued lesbian story line it would have been even better.

I’ll be watching it shortly, it’s on my list.

“If they would have left out the profanity and the continued lesbian story line it would have been even better.”

Have to disagree, even having not seen it. I can’t name one thing that wasn’t improved by profanity and lesbians

Sincerely,
Howard Stern

Started the series a couple days ago. Casting, writing, sets are all are well done.

It’s gritty, lawless and brutal. A fair representation of the times.

I'll give it another shot, I got 10 min into the first episode and turned it off.

I didn't like the camera lighting and cinematography, then there was the language...

Watch the whole first episode to make a decision, as it starts off slow.

Gave it a shot based on this thread, ended up watching it over 4 days and enjoyed the series very much.

Non-traditional storyline but the excellent acting and cinematography are enough to forget the minor flaws and get lost in the story.

5 episodes in, really enjoying this. Storyline feels natural with only 1 or 2 exceptions.

We're watching Longmire right now, are on Season 2. It's pretty good.

Will watch Godless next. However, I kind of like the Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary image I've got in my mind's eye, would hate to lose that.

I watched and I liked it. I found the above to be such a small part of the show that they made almost no difference.

Of course, I was a Deadwood fan.

While the lesbian storyline "worked", I can't help but feel it was a gratuitous write-in to be inclusive. There are many fine movies revolving around homosexuals/homosexuality, how many of them include cowboys, hmmm? :-p

Stick with the series! The final episode is a great shoot-em-up finale!
