What does the collective wisdom of the FDP say about using sonic diffusers with guitar speakers?

They do make a difference. There are a number of home brew versions out there. It's a reversible mod so suck 'em and see. I had tested one or two of the ideas and even decided on one to permanently install but then never actually used it ever again. Go figure!

Yep. My experience is that they work. It's a handy improvement for some amps more than others.

I like them for the effect they have on how a 1x12" combo or cab sounds onstage--especially if it's a closed-back cab set low near the floor.

They help spread the sound around the stage, including upwards (where your ears are).

They make an amp sound fuller within a broader space around the amp. Without them, a typical amp sounds thumpy unless you're directly in line with the speaker's axis. Then you hear all the highs.

The foam donut is the best way to do this. I don’t have any installed these days. No need with my current speakers.

I put a weber beam blocker in my DRRI just for kicks; Couldn't tell any difference, but left it on.
