Thanks everyone! I'm confident in my ability and I know "most" of them would like to have me back. But I can't go in with that attitude, it's still a tryout no matter what.
I've missed playing out with them, a great bunch of guys. I'll let you know as soon as they let me know how it went! ;)

It's the only amp I play through any more, except for the Orange I'm using at church! ;)

Well, I wish I could post the results, but they promised another guitar player a shot at it, so until he gets his tryout, I won't know if I'm "in" or not! Could be a week or two, with the holiday coming up, etc.
Anyway, it went well AFAIC'd.

Still no decision! The other guy that was going to try out backed out on them (eventually) and they STILL haven't decided, so I guess it's time to "read between the lines." I kinda want to tell them "thanks anyway" at this point, but they're good friends, and you also never know what might happen down the road...so I don't want to burn any bridges. But making anyone wait this long just is NOT cool.

Follow up. Contact the ring leader and ask if they've brought anyone aboard. Let them know you're looking at other opportunities and didn't want to commit to any other group until you heard from them.

What Peegoo said! (as usual ;) )

There's no reason to make someone wait 2 months for an answer.

Also agree w/ Mr. Goo. Make them make the call. It's rude to leave you hanging, but it seems they're not all that thrilled if they are doing it in the first place. Make 'em get off the fence! Auditions are either yes/come back or no. They should never be maybe. That's yanking your chain, and frankly, unprofessional.

So today I talked with the band leader, and, I think, made my case. I was told they would send me some videos, and a set list. I rec'd about 8 videos a few days before my tryout, but no set list. So, I requested the set list, and they sent it, over 50 songs. I listened to every one of the songs I could find on Utube, and made notes of the key each song was in, and practiced most of them. I spent time editing the list to include the keys also, and other little reminder notes for myself. Also practiced along with the videos, and spent quite a bit of time on a Pretenders song I had never played before....which went very well at the tryout.
Anyway, apparently they had expected me to concentrate on the videos they sent, but that was never communicated to me, and I made note of that in our discussion today. Not blaming anyone, just a communication problem. Several of those songs I had never heard before, and had trouble remembering exactly how each song started, etc. But they were mostly (easy) blues tunes, so I figured I can learn them any time....and spent too much time on the rest of the set list.
So I'm still in limbo, the band leader will explain this to the rest of them, and....we shall see, I guess! Trying to be patient under the circumstances, because they're doing a lot of blues, and I really think I would fit right in!

He's just jealous because you play some excellent guitar and all he can do is sing.

Go easy on the poor soul, maybe?

Trying out another opportunity next weekend, a 3 pc band where we'd be doing some progressive rock, and some blues, among other things. Awesome drummer who also sings lead vocals, and a bass player that can play circles around most bass players I've been in bands with.
The catch: it's a 2 hr drive to practice in my old home town. This one isn't exactly a tryout, it's more of a "do we all gel" kinda thing. The drummer and I have been in a band together before, the bass player is new but I've heard him play and I have the utmost respect for his talent. Not sure which band I'd rather be in, due to logistics, but I know I'd have more fun in this new endeavor...assuming it works out.

Wow, a 2 hour drive to and from or 1 hour each way? If it's the latter, then I would say maybe, but it would have to be really inspiring and worth the drive, barring any bad weather conditions!
I've made sacrifices for music, but it's usually just to buy more gear. And if the gigs are in their area then late nights will be a booger.
In either case, I hope you truly enjoy this opportunity and would definitely keep tabs on the other band.
Who knows, it may be the best thing that could ever happen for you and it might be the next best thing on the horizon.
Here's hoping for the best for you!
Have they shot you a set list yet to prepare with?
Make sure they do and play the crap out of it!
Best regards, Woody

Thanks Cal! I appreciate your input!
These guys are talented enough, we probably won't practice (together) all that often, certainly not every weekend. I know both of them pretty well, and I have high hopes for the project as long as we can all agree musically. It *could* turn out to be the best band I've ever been in.
As for the set list, they asked ME to suggest 5 songs, and I did. Those are the songs we're starting with. I do need to work on them because several are songs I want to challenge myself with. Part of the fun, IMO.

The drive is 2 hrs one way. The wife will probably go with me and be able to catch up with old friends in our old town. At least the first couple times, anyway. ;)
