I saw that Gibson had significantly pared down the High Performance line in 2017, and was concerned for '18. My fears were justified - there's no more Les Paul High Performance any more except one lone "standard" model, clocking in at $3400. While I LOVE my original 'as soon as it was released' '16 LP Studio HP, that's just beyond what I can ever reasonably afford on my fixed income.

And because I've loved the thing so, I wanted another before they were gone altogether. These are also not guitars I seek out used simply because somebody mucking with the auto-tuners can kill them with stupidity, etc cetera, and unless it was heavily, heavily, massively discounted I would run.

That said, the extra-width fretboard is perfect for my gorilla hands, as is the extra-access neck joint specific to those models. I desperately wanted a second just to have, and found the LAST Artic White one in stock.

It arrived a few days ago, and while clocking in at a half pound heavier than my other one, it's tolerable for a LP (9lb3oz). Setup was as I've come to expect from the HPs (which are Plek'd and have titanium silly hardware, etc) - intonation was spot on to absurdity, and action height almost identical to my existing one. Only adjustment I had to make was to set pickup height, as the neck pickup was as physically low as it'd go for some reason.

I set the internal DIP switches to taste, as the guitar despite the exact same config and weight difference was significantly brighter than the other: coil split on both to cut the treble a little if I used the push/pull versus a tap, and the usual high pass treble bleed switch on both as well.

I liked it enough I threw the shipping boxes away already. I think that says it all.

Fretboard is lighter than my other one, apparently the granadillo really does darken with playing in a good way.

And it was almost three bills cheaper than the first one because the clearances had begun.

These things aren't for everybody, but it's as close to as perfect a normal six-string as I've ever played.

SWEET.

A white Les Paul screams Mick Ronson and Randy Rhoads to me. I have no idea why I don't have a white one.

The GAS fire is burnin'!

Yea, it's funny - I don't like white Fender stuff (but I own several, because..that was the color option available for some models), but the Alpine White LP looks dead right to me for some reason.

Nice score!

I remember a guy on here many moons ago with a white LP. I forget his handle but he was a hoot.

Fine looking instrument there Rev. I've always liked white Studios and owned one for a bit in the very early 90s. I set it up with EMGs.

Congrats!

For LPs, the first one I liked (but sold when I first got sick, as it was too expensive for what little use I got out of it at the time) had the 490/498 combo, same as the HPs.

I wasn't sure if I'd change them when I got the first one but they sound very correct.

Didn't need to order a pair of Dirty Fingers after all!

Those are pretty guitars. One of my Pauls is an LP Junior Special, with the 490/498 pups. I like them very much - I normally favor Classic 57s in a Gibson, but I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the 490/498 combo sounds. On some live recordings we made, they sit perfectly in the mix, crystal clear without being overbearing.

Yea, with the right pots (and they come with them these days) they sound really, really damned good.

Sweet. I love the white LPs and SGs. I have a hankering for a white SG. GAS!

Congrats, REV!

The joke is the new one is the first guitar to take my attention away from its sibling since I got it.

I bought my Standard this past spring thinking that this will be my one and only Gibson.

I'm starting to recant that. This is my first public statement of that thought.

I'm going to be hard pressed to go back to regular spec ones, which is why I had to pull the trigger.

Lots of folks give guff over Gibson's lineup these days. But they obviously have something right going on. The HP line *is* for some - as you have shown.

The traditionalists seem to struggle most. And I get that. I have that streak in me.
